1977 KZ1000 new life

It started life as a 1977 KZ1000 but as you can see it is far from that now. I have all the body parts and a few motors that I have had for a long time, And now I am tired of it sitting there doing nothing, so now I guess it is time to do something with it. My youth in side me says slam it ,stretch it ,and strut it but the wiser man inside says monoshock it,a little lower , a little longer but with style.

I like the long low look myself. Mono shock and usd forks are always cool on an old bike.

I second Don....and if you ever decide to move the bike along to a new owner...it'll sell a lot quicker and for more money with a monoshock. Once you make any permanent mods to the frame geometry, it is a slippery slope...but then I'm sort of a purist. :)

Put some work in friday night and about 6hrs today. Friday night went ahead and cut the damaged lower frame/motor mount out,and some of the sub frame. Then I made a new lower frame/motor mount and an upper cross bar for the monoshock conversion. Then I started on the side cover mounting brackets,I have to make new mounts when I rework the subframe.Saturday I started deseaming the tank and finished the gas cap conversion. I had to finish this first because the guy who does my body work is moving at the end august. Deseaming the tank took some time because you have to make sure there is no leaks, its alot of work but I like the look of it after it is done. After that I fixed a few broken fins on the cylinders, then sand blasted the cylinder head, cylinders, and oil pan hopefully I can get to the cases by monday.I will try to take as many pics as I can along the way but sometimes I just get cranking and forget to stop and take a pic you know how it is.

Put some more time in today not much but some. Picked up some PJ-1 fast black paint tested it on the cylinders dont look to bad so I think I will go with it. Now I am waiting on my tapered bearing set for the frontend. I didn't have a good stem to use so I will have to make one so if I get the bearings in tuesday I will start on that because I need to get it rolling. I started drawing my top and bottom tripple clamps over the weekend and a kickstart block off plate.

I like where this is going. You seem to have the tools and the knowledge to make her a sweet ride.

I was just talking to my brother tonight about mono shocking one of my bikes, probably my KZ 650. He happens to have an 86 GSXR 750 roller that would donate the parts. I just don't know if I am ready to take on another project of that magnitude just yet.

Anyways keep the pics coming as I am sure it just might motivate me. B) B)

Started makeing a new steering stem tonight. The one I had was bent and I did not have a extra old kz bottom clamp so I will make one. I left some stock on the top and bottom so when I cut the clamps I will be able to fit it the way I need it.
