Thanks,Ya I own the the cnc equipment,I had a small shop for a few years and when the economy took a dive I shut it down so the guy I have worked for off an on for about 15 years lets me keep it there rent free, works out good because when he needs something fixed or machined I am always there.531blackbanshee wrote:

Thanks, I followed your build off and on and I have to tell you that you did one hell of a job! I have built a few old kaws over the years but never a monoshocked one I think it will be cool to do.Old Man Rock wrote:

I may have missed it, but i'm curious what the donor parts are from? (USD forks, swingarm..) I was also wondering, if you have the equipment to CNC your own triples, are you going to offset the forks a bit for lock to lock steering clearance? I hear the limited steering is a bitch in tight parking lots

Not sure how I missed this, but looks like you have the start to a nice project. I have a suggestion for a good donor bike that is easily adapted.

What size Haas is that in the back of your shop? VF3? I love the control on the newer Haas machines. Lots of little secret shortcuts that make setups easier.

Did you get that motor with the bike? I noticed that the cylinder block is from a 900? Is the bike a Frankenstein?

The stock GSXR 750 triples adapted to my KZ1000 give the same steering angle as my zx-10r even with steering stops set to keep clipons off the tank. I still don't see why everyone wants the same amount of steering angle as a stock KZ so badly. The steering inputs on the road are so small that it's a non issue, except in parking lots. Are the newer GSXR triples offset so little that it makes it unusable in parking lot manuvers? It doesn't ever give me a problem on the ZX.

Anyway, let me know if I can help. Keep up the good work.

Well I am not sure,I have a set of 02 gsx-r 750 usd forks and I have a set os 05 gsx-r usd forks, but I am leaning more towards the 05 set because of the radial mount brakes. The swingarm I will build myself,as for offsetting the forks I have done several usd fork conversions and have not had any real problems with steering you lose a little but its not that bad in parking lots.

I wish it was a vf-3 but its a vf-1 I bought it new in june of 06 it has been a great machine ,cant complain.

No that is just a mock up bottom end that I stuck in the frame while I work on it. But the cylinders are 900 and so is the crank but the cases are 1000.

Ya I have to agree with you on the steering issue. The first gsx-r frontend swap I did was in 1993 and I used a 1995 gsx-r 1100 frontend because the clipon bars mounted on top of the tripple clamp insted of the botom and it worked great. Thats why when I cut my new clamps I will mount the bars on top insted of useing the gsx-r clipons.

Ok now that I got the stem ready I will start on the clamps. I have decided on useing the 05 gsx-r usd forks because of the radial mount calipers. As far as the rear I am useing a hayabusa shock and I will try a suspension link that I make for race bikes. What the link does is gives you about 1.5 xtra ground clearence and if your bike is long it will help stiffen up the suspension a little. If it dont work like I want I will try the factory hayabusa one.

Man I swear you took the picture of those forks on my garage floor. I bet I have a hundred pictures of that peeling, gray, garage floor paint.

Nice looking machine work on that linkage. I can't wait to see your clamp design. I always wish, that I had more time at work to make cool bike parts. Maybe I should grow a pair and start my own shop some day.

I have never played with a VF-1, but we have a pair of VF-2 super speeds, and a VF-3 at my shop. You get a lot of features for the money with a Haas, and their mills are quite good. As far as I'm concerned, you can keep their lathes, but you can't fault them for trying. Their customer service here in Houston is top notch. It seems that they are one of the few companies who stock spares locally, and can usually get you back in business in 24hrs.
