A little bit of an update. I took the mockup motor and swingarm out and finished cutting the rest of the subframe out, finished welding all the monoshock mounts, and welded in the new lower frame rail. It turned out pretty good, I will add a gusset here and a gusset there nothing to crazy it's not a pro mod drag bike. Other than that, the monoshock should be a wrap. Now I need to finish the subframe and get to building a swingarm.

Nice work slingshot. I tell you what, after cleaning up all the mig welds on my frame, I would just about trade my zx-10r for a good tig welder.

Ya I have a mig welder but I don't use it much, Even though the mig is faster the tig is a much cleaner and stronger weld, when doing stuff like this. I have 2 Miller Syncrowave 250 DX's one is a 2006 all digital and the other one is a 98 or 99 its just knob controls. The digital controler on the newer one lets you really dial your settings in to find that sweet spot. The older one is just a work horse.

Tonight I messed with a couple of ideas on the rear subframe. I was trying to hide most of the subframe behind the sidecovers and rear tail as possible. But I ended up going with what I have here, it still shows a little of the subframe but it give the most support (I think!). I geuss we will find out soon enough (lol).

I think that should hold your ass up. Unless you are a really big boy. Where are you gonna hide the battery and all the electric stuff?

I had thought about doing it the way you went, but in the end I decided it was more pleasing to my eye, and gave me the most room for electrical stuff for the down tube to follow the contour of the sidecover

Ya not to sure on the battery and electronics just yet, But I did come up with another idea while I was eating dinner last night, so I might just cut all that back out and redo it.

Hmmm... I don't know about those upper mono brackets being enough guys... One good jolt (road pot hole) and you'll know for sure....
"T" cross member with vertical support to top mount...
I went through the same debate... Went with additional support and I've had no issues... Nor have I had a shock rammed up my booty.... :S
Ugly, possibly... Have to relocate electrical panel and electronics including battery cage, Yup but strong as hell... No booty shock :woohoo:
