Hardrock, just hollow out a piece of driftwood and throw parts inside with a GPS locator and throw it in a creek that heads south. Like a square grouper, ha.

Wookie,
29% is a lot of money, does not matter if called VAT, tariff, tax, rape, robbery.
These taxes make it prohibitive to buy anything outside your country.
I'm in usa and have purchased $20k of CB750 parts from Yamiya in Japan with no tariff.
Now tariff is 15%, sadly this may change my buying.

An extra $3k for the same stuff to support "whatever it's supporting" (not going to get into something with that) is NO JOKE !!!

I see it as a work in progress. I hope everything will even out as more come to the table.

‼️BREAKING: Trump Secures Historic Japan Trade Deal

President Trump has just signed an Executive Order finalizing a $550 BILLION trade and investment deal with Japan , one of the largest foreign investments in U.S. history.

They said it could never be done. Yet here we are, a deal of unprecedented scale that will bring jobs, infrastructure, and long-term growth back to the United States.

As previously mentioned let's keep to the "tariffs" and what impact they have on the members - everybody has an opinion on what is going on behind it but this "isn't the place". As with so many threads historically here, there is a danger that keeping each other informed about "how foreign purchases will be effected" can rapidly descend into a political "bun-fight" at which point the thread will get "locked" again

Jumping back to reality for a moment...

Packages from Spain to US are being charged at 15% duty, and that doesn't include any extra that the carrier may add.  This is just an example of what's happening.  Spain doesn't supply a lot of motorcycle parts to the USA, but just adding a data point.

I recently ordered some carb parts from Sirius Consolidated in Canada.  This was before the de minimus change.  Well, there was a snfu regarding the order, and they shorted me.  A friendly email was well accepted, and they sent out the missing parts, arriving today.  If I get hit with an extra charge, I won't be happy.

Companies like these pay normal tariff charges when they buy stuff.  So there are charges when buying, and more charges when selling.  Us end users take it in the shorts.

Bottom line, for us peon small buyers, trying to keep our bikes on the road buying parts from places like Webike, we will now be paying a minimum of 15% extra.  Could be worse.  What I know, though, is that this extra charge will NOT drive US manufacturers to pick up the production here.  There isn't enough money to be made justifying the industrialization costs.  No, rather, this is just an extra cost the end users will have to absorb.

My Spain reference was just an example of how I got "bitten in the ass" trying to avoid duties by going the "gift" route from a "private individual" these guys are a lot of things but "stupid" isn't one of them

Like I said before Tarrifs will cause buyers to look at local sellers more than buying abroad because of the extra costs incurred.

I can buy motorcycle parts from Japan with no Tarrif but the dollar conversion is sometimes the sticking point, its all subjective.

I have a local supplier in town within a 20 minute drive from me (Diablo/Reproduction Decals) but they list all parts in USD so I am reluctant to use them on most items. There stock is mostly reproduction parts with some OEM smalls so I do shop there in person to eliminate them shipping it!

I forgot that Sirius is also a local supplier, about a hours drive for me. Bought from them a few times over the years, but local post is much cheaper than gas.

Ten years ago he was looking for a custom designed rack to display clutch/brake/tach/speedo cables on. He must have had over 1000 cables in stock, he gave me the measurements of the rack so I rough designed it and my partner got a materials/hours quote to him to get it built, but in the end it was too much cash... as far as I know he never did pull the trigger on it.
