Re: Tariff Charges
03 Sep 2025 15:22I can't speak for what Canada has done, but this is what de minimis means to imports into the USA...From what I here over on this side (Canada) you could be charged up to $200 on that $800 threshold (25%) BTW this free under $800 has been in effect for almost 100 years. That figures, crap. Does anyone have a clue, or place to look, what additional amount might i be looking foreword to?
People are trying to figure away around this by shipping as a gift but the Government will try to shut that down every which way. The post office here says they will only ship gifts to residential addresses and they can easily search out if there is a business involved online very quickly.
There are still some vendors in the USA that refuse to ship to Canada because of our stricter import laws/taxes. In the future you may see this happening in reverse for all other counties refusing to ship to the USA because of these import fees.
No one wants to pay more especially if its going into the Governments hands.
The U.S. de minimis threshold began at $1 in the Tariff Act of 1930 , gradually increasing to $200 in 1993 and $800 in 2016 with the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act (TFTEA).

Apparently, USPS shipments will be held at the PO, and the recipient will have to go there and pay, before getting their package.
I don't know about where you guys live, but at my PO that means a half an hour wait! Maybe longer now!

Yikes!!!
Best to view the cart (and know the exact fee amounts) BEFORE touching that pay bar!

Re: Tariff Charges
03 Sep 2025 22:03 - 03 Sep 2025 22:06My local postie will deliver a package even if duties are owed, they have a card reader with them but they only take VISA/MC and no debit cards.Apparently, USPS shipments will be held at the PO, and the recipient will have to go there and pay, before getting their package.

If you refuse to pay they take it back to the post office where it will sit till somebody pays (hold it for 3 weeks?) or else they will send it back thru the system to the sender.
I got sent a package once I never ordered so did not pay for it then asked the guy what happens to it.

Here you have to pay the shipper on-line or by phone before they will deliver

My understanding of US tariffs on Canada are as follows:
Goods compliant with USMCA (called CUSMA in Canada) enter tariff free.
Non compliant goods are subject to a 35% tariff.
Raw steel or aluminum are subject to a 50% tariff. Some copper semi-refined products also subject to this tariff.
There is another 25% tariff that was imposed on Mexico and Canada due to US concerns over fentanyl and people smuggling into the USA. I don't know if this is additive to the above.
Clay, you can always ship those parts to me. I promise to pass them along to you. Honest!!

Hardrock i will definitely take You up on that kind offer!! Nothing motorcycle related but, got to thinking??? I was fortunate, bought a couple of those Harbor Freight 6.5hp engines years ago for the CrAzY price of around 110 USD out the door. I use them for a multitude of applications, cheaper then rebuilding a similar one. They Are Super reliable, unlike the majority of HF inventory. Wondering how these "extras" are going to effect the box store prices at Northern tool and Harbor Freight? I rarely frequent these bargain basement stores, gotta know what's crap or not.
Just used one for the neighbors log splitter so down to only one now, ha.

Yesterday 04:15 - Yesterday 04:16
Nice setup on that log splitter!
I'm going to be away on a fishing trip until the end of Sept. Be happy to do it after that, but I don't know for sure if it will help. They may still charge tariff on it even if I "gift" it.
