Right now, my RPM reading is dead on the speedometer. I want to make sure I understand the settings correctly:
  • Should I set it to "0.5" (2 RPM signals per 1 ignition)?
  • My bike has two coils and four cylinders, with the coils firing alternately (since each coil connects to two spark plugs).
Does this mean I get 1 ignition per 2 RPM signals?Am I thinking about this the right way? :)

Thanks for your help!

Easy to get confused thinking about these things :)
I'll test it — right now the RPM speedo is dead, so I want to configure it correctly before I start troubleshooting the wiring.
I guess I can move the shaft manually to activate the pickup sensor and measure 12V at the pickup... Hopefully, I won't need to invert the signal or anything.

The noisy speedo signal could be tricky and could end into a jumping needle, don´t ask why i know it......
An ABS signal converter connected to one of the ignition pic-ups was my final cure.

Thank you for the information — I’ll keep it in mind.

Right now, my problem is that it's completely dead :(

I tried changing the configuration yesterday, but it's still completely dead...If I disconnect the RPM pickup cable that goes to the speedo and measure the voltage, and then remove the spark plug and turn the shaft manually with a torque wrench —
Is it correct to assume that I will measure 12–13V when the specific pickup sensor detects the metal on the shaft?
And if I leave it in that position, I should get a constant 12–13V?

I just want to verify that the cabling from the speedo to the pickup sensor is correct.

Thank you! :)The engine is running (though I haven’t test-driven it yet), and all four pipes are getting hot. :)I tried both configurations for positive and negative detection yesterday, but without any success.
I can try running a temporary cable from the coil positive to the RPM pickup cable going to the speedo and see what happens...I’ve routed all the cables nicely, so I hope I don’t have to rewire anything. :)

Maybe I can add a type of relay (same as  Scirocco ) and then use the signal coming from the pickups sensor itself?

No - connect it to the switched side of the 1&4 coil (black wire) as per the KZ1000 diagram :)
You could push it in the back of the plug for the igniter to test
