Re: Top-End Reassembly
Yesterday 13:49The PM I sent to Steve West Oct. 1, 2025:
Pulled the head today, and wasn't able to prevent breaking the base gasket seal, despite having the block tied down tightly.
After removing the head I discovered that my Wiseco pistons have sizeable grooves worn into the valve pocket sides.
Its like the intake pockets were machined too far away from the piston edge and rub against the edge of the valves.
Thinking of posting pics of this situation.

Well, that was then...before I ran into the brick wall at Wiseco.
Honestly, this is one of the top five issues that I have had to deal with in all my sixty-eight years on the earth, though fifty of those were spent riding.
This is the Ebay listing description that lured me in, and hooked me solid in the lip:
LOL!
Screenshot below is a brief portion of the lengthy Wiseco warranty (contract?) that I never thought to read until last week...which apparently does NOT apply to my situation:
🥴

That sucks, have you seen anything posted elsewhere by anyone else having the same issue (must be a lot of big bore 1100's out there) looking at pics the valve pockets look the same as the 81-82 GPZ's etc with a regular head ??

Have not Wookie, but I doubt the majority of kit installs would be a simple stock piston replacement as this was intended to be.
I modified the valve pockets on a standard set of KZ1100 stock pistons for the same top-end setup as this on my old motor in 2015. Those, like the 84 ZN/ZX1100 pistons have valve pockets spaced farther apart than this Wiseco set, which I assumed and presumed would be sized correctly to begin with.
Would like to consult with Wiseco management or the engineering department, but I anticipate facing stearn resistance from the customer service department.
🤨
The Wiseco piston pocket angles do match the valves in the head...

Re: Top-End Reassembly
Today 19:41This is what I was referring to.
Yes, and they wanted the pistons to make sure they were made correctly...
According to the tech department, they checked out, so tough tity.
My view is whatever they were compared to is incorrect, and the engineering specs need to be reviewed and revised.
Wiseco is now owned by Race Winning Brands, the same conglomerate that bought Falicon and liquidated it.
WTF!
Sounds to me they are getting rid of the compattion like other suppliers that will remain nameless.
