If you can find them, go with an 18 front and a 17 rear. They look real good on the KZ's and still have a ton of tire choices. I went with a 120/70-18 up front and a 180/55-17 rear. (I had a 16" KZ rear mag widened and increased 1" in diameter to 17" and had a std Z1-R 18" front widened to 3.5 wide). There are several aftermarket fenders that look great on the 18" front (I even have an extra one or 2 if you are interested)
The Kaw List:

Former: 03 KLX400SR, 99 ZRX1000, 82 KZ750 LTD, 80 KZ1000 A4 MKII, 80 KZ1000 LTD, 78 KZ1000 A2, 74 H-2 750 Triple, 78 KL250

wireman - "my biggest problem with the 17" front wheel is trying to find a front fender that matches the radius of the front wheel and still retains a z1/kz look to it." I faced that exact problem but I found a front fender from Klasmo and made it fit the front forks on my '73 Z1-900. Later I found that AmericanClassix.com in the US sells the same front fender. But fitting this expensive front fender is not a trivial exercise I must tell you.

im thinking about going with the 18" front and 17" rear combination,im not gonna be laying this bike into corners at 140 although i will be occasionally doing that in a straight line:evil: :P im trying to keep this bike looking as much like the old hotrods that ran the streets in the 70s and 80s when i was a young wildman riding on em,so im gonna try and modify a steel ltd fender by widening it just a little to clear a 120 front tire and replating it im also gonna widen a stock z1 steel rear fender to match the rear tire and plate it;) ah nostalgia!;) :P

Wireman...check out an LTD fender from an early KZ1100 LTD. I believe they are about 1/2" to 1" wider then the LTD fender off a KZ1000 LTD. If anyone has one they can measure it, but I'm sure they are wider. One of those should fit a 120 tire. The forks have a wider spacing I know so the fender should be wider also.
1980 LTD (changed over the years), 1979 LTD (being rebuilt), 1977 KZ turbo and various KZ's in various states of build. KLX110
