The coils on my '83 KZ1000 are mounted further forward, on brackets, inside the frame.
It does bring them up from the engine.

The old coil and bracket, very similar in shape as an exhaust muffler hanger.

Thanks Rob, that's how mine used to be but that "real estate" has a sitting tenant now that can't move without a full "re-wire" so it's something of a conundrum !!!!

Could you perhaps rotate the ignition coils 90 degrees from their current longitudinal orientation—using an L-bracket, for instance? That way, the coil's spark plug wire outlets would point outwards instead of sitting so close to the valve cover... just a thought...

Thanks Joe, this is the conundrum (I spent most of Saturday scratching my head on the one) the coils aren't round (sides are flat) so if I rotated 90 degrees they would no longer fit between the frame rails so would have to be lower (even closer to the motor) and this would also mean drilling the laminated cores at 90 degrees to the original sleeved hole which I think would compromise the core. Switching to 45 degrees bring the same issue of needing to be lowered but then also the coil mounting bolt and the bracket mounting bolt need to occupy the same space !!!!!

I get it, Guy.
It’s a really tough problem to solve, especially since your setup—including the cables and connections—is all custom-made... keep us posted if you come up with a solution!

There may not even be an issue. You could stick a thermocouple to the coils to see in realtime what they are having to deal with. My guess would be more heat from tje engine when stationary, parked up after a good run  when the heat rises with no airflow. You  could add 'air tubes'defectors', the Zeph11 has 2 feeding fresh air from the front to the head in the centre. The other thought is, do they have to be mounted in the conventional position. Cars back when Dizzy Caps were a thing had very long HT leads.

To be honest I am fairly set in the “suck it and see” at the moment- my options are limited without ruining the aesthetic I have been working on and the coils looking like an afterthought!!!
