Today has been a day of wire brushing and plating oil pan and crankcase bolts, not much fun but worth the effort for corrosion protection

Thanks. Now that I see it, I seem to remember that you posted this previously. Do you rebottle the fluids when it is not in use?

At the moment I just use the "clip on" lids on the tanks. Once this build is finished I will put it in "screw top" containers to avoid accidental spillage and evaporation

More parts finished over the holiday weekend (family was over yesterday so I was banned) I've rebuilt the starter, body and fittings plated (the yellow passivate didn't work out too well so I scuffed it off with some 000 steel wool which has left the zinc behind and looks way better) I also need to turn new insulators. The brushes are worn but at $140 they will do for now, I also skimmed the armature.
Next was the ZZR/ZRX cam chain tensioner (I need something smaller than the stock unit too make space for the oil lines and saw this conversion here on the forum from one of our Eastern European members) the diameter and travel are the same as stock but it has a ratchet mechanism.
Lastly I have cleaned up the ignition housing and cover (the factory black was an absolute bitch to get off the housing)

Big thank you to Rob (zed1015) for sharing "how to" skim the spring retainers and collets. I made an "installed height gauge" to Rob's spec in the week and dropped off this morning at the machine shop so he can "tip" the valves now they have been reground and the seat re-cut. Getting excited now, should have all the machining back before next weekend.

Well that's another weekend over, I wanted to recess the side casing bolts "just because I like the look". The first hitch was that a 6mm counterbore has an 11mm cutter which would "break out the side" on some of the tabs. A 5mm has a 9mm cutter so that's fine (except all the bolt heads needed turning down by 1mm). The only issue is the guide pin is too small to keep the cutter true so (using a suggestion from Doctorot in another thread) I installed a brass bush to bring it up to 6.2mm. This was fine until I got to the generator cover and found the tool was too short !! I managed to weld an extension to it which has got the job done on all of the external covers :)

Hi Guy, that looks really neat, far better than having proud heads, and shows that you are really thinking about the complete end result. Great job

Nice detailing, did you the Marlboro filters as a go/no go gauge?
