Re: And finally, Wookie's 82 begins !
22 Apr 2025 14:27Absolutely, there have been a lot of "firsts" for me during this project but my philosophy has always been "what's the worst that can happen?"Forward thinking would have saved me a ton of money over the years. Always had the vision.....just took a lot of time and never taking NO you cant build or do that for an answer to get something done. Lol

Outstanding build Wookie.
I just finished off 2 cups of coffee while digging into your build.
Craftsmanship meets artistry.
You deserve nothing less than this beautiful machine.

It's been another weekend of refurbishing cheap parts from Ebay, the ZRX master cylinders have been stripped, cleaned, the old paint removed and re-painted in black enamel. Just need to wait a few days for it to fully cure before I handle them to re-assemble.
Next was my mirrors, I wanted to use OEM mirrors as I don't like any of the aftermarket stuff I have seen (don't want "Maltese crosses" or "space ship mirrors" !!!) I have been watching out for a set of Z900RS units as I like the look and they don't stick up like "Micky Mouse's" ears. However I have been watching for ages and nothing came up until recently (remember I'm "cheap") these looked in good shape with the exception of the butchered fittings and missing rubber/plastic covers so I threw in a cheeky bid
Was a bit gutted when I found the covers aren't available as a separate part - so back to my little lathe and I knocked some up out of plastic round stock (if anybody is considering one of these mini-lathes based on space or budget I would say go for it. As long as you accept their limitations I have lost count of how many little jobs I have used it for on this build)

Had a change of pace this weekend with some "electrical". The main functions of the switchgear run through a Axel Joost "D-Box" which means that the handlebar switches are only switching ground signals at approx 0.25amps each. This means I can run much lighter cables (22awg) and less of them. After re-configuring the internal wiring the left switch now has 5 wires instead of twelve and the right 5 instead of 10
I wanted to run the wiring internal for a cleaner look so with the now format I only needed 7mm holes in the bars and risers (wiring runs through the risers) This left big ugly exit holes in the housings for the original wiring, these have been closed with some blanks cut from ABS sheet and "hot staples" a little filler primer and a coat of textured black "Voila"
The "jury's out" at the moment as to whether I make a blanking plug for the choke cable housing or try and make the handlebar mounted choke functional ??

Re: And finally, Wookie's 82 begins !
14 May 2025 19:27I am wondering if the plan includes upholstery over and under the rear hump of the seat pan, or if it will be painted?Been back on the seat pan over the weekend, I have relocated the original triumph fixings (push in retainer at he front and "snap" latch at the back) now that I know it's final position I have been able to fabricate the rear section of the pan to replace the half I cut off I am new to plastic shaping and fabricating so really happy with the outcome. I know there are a few ripples in it (couldn't get heat to it from underneath) but I guess that's what flexible plastic filler is for I was more interested in getting it to fit nice around the tailpiece ( might need to shim it as it's a bit too snug)

15 May 2025 00:33 - 15 May 2025 00:57Not sure what you mean by "under" the hump. The hump is fully upholstered on top and naked plastic underneath. As it's such a close fit on the tailpiece I will put "sacrificial" clear vinyl over the painted part of the tailpiece which is under the seat to stop the paint rubbing throughI am wondering if the plan includes upholstery over and under the rear hump of the seat pan, or if it will be painted?

Thanks, that answers my poorly worded question, I assumed that the upholstery folded over the edge of the pan and in the pictures it looks like the pan is too snug against the tail piece to allow room for the material.

Another busy weekend draws to a close
pretty much wrapped up the handlebar furniture (still need to fit new grips) and the front end wiring is in (the clocks are away now to have the odometer re-set to zero) also got the front end hydraulics in (ran out of time for the rear and it will be a fiddle as the hose runs through the swingarm) Was a bit of a PITA making the hoses on the bike but that was determined by the routing (why do things the easy way !!!) also need to sort some clips for the front hoses to keep them off the fender

Few more little jobs done before I go on holiday in a couple of days (back to Italy for the Mille Miglia again
) The rear brake line is now rn through the swingarm for a clean look (bit of a PITA as the swingarm beams are a double box section) clocks are back from being "zeroed" new faces fitted and cleaned up with new LED lighting installed. I have also installed the mount for the front connector station for the electrics. I have used another automotive product where the wires will come through the steel plate "panel edge rubber" to prevent "rub through". So that will be it for a couple of weeks

Looking fantastic mate - those clocks look the biz. Can't wait to see it when it's all finished.
Have a great holiday and enjoy the Mille Miglia.
