Still moving forward, I have removed the gold anodising from the front disc centres and painted with "high temp" black. Wheels are now fully assembled ready for new shoes on Saturday (Pirelli Diablo Rosso's) will still need to remove the back wheel again when the motor is done (schoolboy error, I forgot to measure how much I need to remove from the sprocket carrier to align to chain before disassembly)
I am going to make adjustable dog-bones with rose joints for the back end, for the rose joints to function correctly I need to isolate the needle rollers in the swingarm and linkage. There are several ways to accomplish this but I have chosen to make some isolators out of aluminium (donated by the scrap ZX9R stem I had
) with stainless washers inserted. Once bolted up this will lock the OE bearings and the movement will be in the rose joints - bit by bit it's coming together

Well it's been another productive weekend
with new tyres fitted on Saturday morning then I started on the brakes in the afternoon. The front 6 pots where an "absolute whore" to get apart thanks to somebody using chocolate hex through bolts and no "anti-seize", in the end I had to drill the heads off three of them !!! Following a good soaking in oven cleaner I have decided to "counter-bore the through bolts (purely asthetic) so they are off to the blaster on Tuesday then I intend to try and "anodise them". I am also getting the rear master ready for blasting and have "turned" some plastic plugs to keep the media out of the internals (the blaster has plugs for the calliper pistons. Finally I have managed to get my adjustable dog-bones done today

Very nicely done. Used a set of Strong Hand internal 6” locking pliers modified to remove the pistons in those 6 pots. They were good working, but still a PITA to remove without it.

Well it's been a week of ups and downs but generally still making progress. Having cleaned up the GSXR swinger I wanted to use an OEM chain guide (I am still trying to use OEM where possible to achieve a "could of always been that way" look) So this presented the first conundrum !! the guide is made of rubber and needed to move inwards 11.5mm for it's new home, after a little head scratching I have "relieved" the back side to allow it to sit inwards the required amount but this then meant that none of the original mounts would work any more !! more head scratching, I cut the mounts off and fabbed new ones in 1.5mm sheet metal which are then bonded to the rubber. This now uses three of the original mounting points and two new ones
I put all the pics in case anybody wants to go the same route

Next was the sprocket carrier, I just managed to squeeze it into my little lathe to remove 11.5mm. Then with the bolts cut down and re-plated and the whole thing painted I started to assemble. This is where the "downs" slapped me in the face - "schoolboy error" on my part has scrapped the carrier when I pressed the bearing in
so back to Ebay for another (luckily they are cheap and plentiful)

Last update for now, another first for me with "plating" mixed results but OK for a first attempt and at least protected against corrosion

It's admirable that you electroplate yourself. I've stopped using chemicals (also for disposal reasons), except for the occasional derusting of a tank with citric acid.
Luckily, I have a good electroplater nearby, as well as a paint stripping service, who still do good work at reasonable prices.
Nice work, Guy !

Thanks Joe, waste is a problem but I like to push myself to learn new things (before this project I had never fabbed in plastic or used a lathe
)

It's been another busy weekend, firstly rectifying last weeks "foo-par" with the sprocket carrier !!! replacement came in the week so I got it machined down and painted yesterday (suns out so the paint dried pretty quick
) Next was assembling the rear end which went together nicely with no drama, the plating on the dog-bones came out nice. Still pushing forward the wheels are also in now, my "lazy old man who doesn't like struggling" wheel install brackets work nicely taking all the juggling out of installing the wheel with the spacers and calliper mount pre-assembled.
