Sweet. I love it when issues turn into good news without me doing a thing. Mine is not drilled, so nothing to be concerned about, and its the "good kind" of accelerator pump not the troublesome kind. Thanks guys.

Re: rebuilding vm24 with acc pump for dummies
30 Oct 2025 13:02Good to know H1, i haven't seen a 650 in years. I was going to say if that cover wasn't on there it would of been spilling fuel all over!!
There was some leakage in the general area, but not from that. Might be the pump cover gasket. #1 drain screw also might leak, but I'm not sure if that wicked over from the pump gasket. Anyway it shouldn't leak when I'm done.

Got them partly apart and was happy to see what are apparently original Mikuni main jets (92.5) anyway. The screwdriver slots are variously mangled from previous dummies, but the functional portions look undamaged. The emulsion tube side holes look like they were poorly done (under microscope, mind you), or maybe someone reamed them out at a later date? They just are not cleanly cut in the way I would expect from Kawasaki/Mikuni. You can see (and feel) a little rim of "push out" on the outside of each side hole sort of like when you drill through wood without backing. But they are very uniform and consistent in that look so maybe its normal?
Do you guys usually replace fuel tees and connectors if they aren't leaking? I did split the rack so I certainly could...

Do You have a central located Single fuel tee or duel tee's? As mentioned, haven't seen a set of those 650 carbs in quite a while. Doing a couple sets at the time, 26 and 28 VM KZ1000LTD pumpers. They both are the TWO tee style, 1979 was the 26mm but quickly reverted back to the 28mm version in the 1980 model sans the "sensor" crap. But Your question, replace Tee or not? I reuse the original tees but cut back the first "rib" and install a double row of #78 o-rings. I do a lot of unorthodox, proven but a lot of persons don't either understand or able to duplicate, stuff. If reusing your tee's, while apart. Push in the tee and "feel" for an interference fit. If it just goes in and seems loose then address it now!

As far as I know all the 650s came stock with a single fuel inlet. If not leaking now it may once you remove, clean and reinstall it. I have seen some make use of fuel proof Teflon tape, others add an oring. Others replace it with a new one, either self made or purchased. Not saying you need to do any of that, but it does leak after rebuild, they have to come apart to fix.

Yeah, the Tee (mine only has 1) is not as snug as the carb couplers are, so I may replace it if the Tee on its way to me fits. I don't like doing things twice. The couplers are quite snug so they should be fine.
I should have waited to criticize the previous dummies for mangling the main jet slots because I added to it. I finally got 3 of them out but the 4th one is not budging even after soaking in PB all night. Guess I will try heating it some. t
Also there is a lot of pitting on the inside of the main jets. I don't know how much it affects performance but I don't like it. I see some 92.5 Mikuni jets out there but I don't know if they are the right ones. I will wait till I look at the other brass parts before I do anything

Got 3 carbs cleaned and ready for new o-rings and main jets which both came yesterday, working on the last thing on the last carb and of course the air screw seems to be misthreaded, The pilot jet on that one alone was really gunked up too. Anywho I really doubt that screw is going to come out without force but help may be on the way for that too. ,
The NPN gaskets arrived and they came in an opened Kawasaki bag that held 5 originally. They are thick, not paper, and have red printing on them that I can't read, similar to the gaskets that came off. Kawasaki? They seem OK to me, but I'm no certified gasket inspector.

Got it, thanks Wookie that worked a charm. The upper thread or more on the carb are definitely all buggered up. I don't think I have a tap or thread chaser that size so I will have to hunt one down.

A bit of info if it helps 305. Main Jet and Jet Holder/emulsion tube are M5 X 0.75. Air screws "might" vary but on this VM28 it's M6 X 0.75. Float seats are M9 X 1.00. Main jets are N100.604-XX, XX being 92.5 in Your case. I purchase Genuine New Mains and Pilots if ANY sort of brass pitting, especially if visible. If you see pitting on that Main jet it's surely within the calibration hole too. Buy your Taps/Dies from a quality source, nothing Harbor Freight quality and they will last a lifetime properly stored. And..if you don't have a correct fitting bladed driver use the back side of a kitchen knife, mine is been in use for over a decade and the wife never missed it, ha. Have fun!

Be very careful with a tap. It may start crooked, and mess up the threads you have left.
