Float needle O rings

Hi, I have a kz1000j 1981 with overflowing carbs.

The original needle and seats were replaced with tourmax replacements. They still leaked. Tried polishing etc but didn't work.

Now I bought a cheap Chinese rebuild kit and they include two small o rings, one rubber one metal. Where do they go ? Do they go on the needle and seat ? I see them in different float rebuild kits but can't find them on diagrams.

Going ChEaP isn't going to resolve your issues unfortunately. Look closely at the float needle tip, really CLOSE with a magnifying glass. You'll see the tip is rough drafted and not a smooth taper. Tourmax products are just Chinese in disguise. The FAT rubber would be for the Pilot slug. The thinnest one would be for the pilot adjust needle washer/spring/oring. The other one, couldn't tell you? Those cheap kits often come with extras of unused stuff. I can say, that brass tapered screw isn't correct!! Looks more like an air adjust screw which these BS34's didn't use. In addition the true J carbs had AIRCUTS for adding extra fuel on deceleration to prevent it from afterfire. Good luck...You'll be back, ha.

Yes I understand, but I just want to try out the float needle and seats, I won't be using the rest. Can't be worse then the ones I have now. I thought those little o rings had something to do with the floats. What is a recommended brand for float needles and seats ? Tourmax were 13 euro a piece so thought they would work but they didn't.

Have you tried closing them manually ?
Do the floats "float" ?
Are the floats fouling the float bowls ?

I tried closing them manually and tested with my pressure tester but they wouldn't hold any pressure.

I didn't test if they would actually float maybe I should check it out too.

Are the floats fouling the float bowls ? This I don't understand what you mean.

When setting float heights by using the clear tubing method initially they are set good, but slowly the level rises and after an hour they overflow.

Even good float valves won't hold back fuel for an hour.  And it's the gaskets that sometimes foul the float movement.

If you're sure that they are good I don't mind buying them off you including shipping!

If not I do want to buy new ones but I cannot find a good brand around here that I'm sure that will be good.

@Nessism

I will check out those gaskets, but if those would be stuck I would guess the carbs would overflow almost inmediatly. I understand good floats won't hold fuel completely, but overflowing seems to be a sign of bad float valves.

I have full O-ring kits for the BS34 carbs, and that small fat O-ring looks nothing like any O-ring I'm familiar with for those carbs.  This same situation repeats itself with various aftermarket O-ring kits sold.  Very strange.
