My personal preference (and it is just that) is to do this with the piston at the top (I tend to air on the side of caution and with the piston at the top, should your air line burst the valve can't fall in) The easiest way to do this single handed is to pressurise two cylinders together (one up and one down) using a "Y" piece on the air line. It's easy enough to make fittings for the head by welding air line fittings into the shells of old spark plugs with the ceramic removed

That should work as well as it should prevent valve drop in case the pressure drops.

I wouldn't worry about it yet Dave

I may have found the culprit, and it's not what I was expecting...

Cylinder #3 has new valve seals now, and I believe the piston rings are fine.

Was hoping to ride the season out, and I'm not quite ready to hang it up just yet...but that #3 exhaust valve seems a bit wobbly.

The installation of a new valve stem/guide seal didn't help...

The head must be pulled for service

Be careful, those plugs are really lean, I would start richer then go leaner, your plugs are too white, they should be dark grey (gray for US)

Truer image without flash:

Been running Non-Ethanol 90 octane (recreation gas) exclusively for a couple months.

The motor doesn't ping under load or run hot.  It starts easily, runs strong, and is completely silent when the ignition is turned off.

Pilot Jets were changed from 17.5 to 20, and Mains from122.5 to 125 about six weeks ago.

Air Jets are .09 with Jet Needle Clips in the 3rd. slot.
Fuel Screws 1/8-1/4 turn out produces smooth idle.
Nippon Denso W27ES-U spark plugs

Please advise, thanks!

Thats better the colour looks better. The flash obviously made it look very lean

Bozo, your comments and observations are muchly appreciated.
😉

90 octane rec gas seems to burn cleaner/better than 93 octane E10 Premium.  Given the minimal cost difference and close availability, I prefer leaving the corn 🌽 juice out of my fuel system.
