Hello everyone. I was looking to replace my petcock on my 77' KZ650. 44mm is the distance on the mounting bolts. I was looking at simply replacing it if I could find a replacement, but then I took it apart. Seems to me it's a rubber o-ring on the selector lever, a spring on that lever, and and some sort metal strainer, (that is obviously in need of replacement) in the bowl. Are these pieces replaceable? If not, does anyone have a recommendation on a manual petcock for a 77' KZ650? Thanks as always. Have a great day!!

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationAssuming your fuel valve is 51023-057 in the diagram, the o-ring is still available.
or a metric nitrile/viton o-ring kit may have something that will work.

STRAINER FUEL 51038-007 (NLA at Kawasaki). kind of pricy IMHO but has MO.

That is a bit pricey. Can I omit the strainer if I put an inline fuel filter on the system? Thanks for the info!

Unless the strainer is damaged, you should be able to clean it. O rings and gaskets can be replaced. The issue, IMO, is the plastic cone that interacts with the lever and send fuel in the correct location. It does not have a part # and apparently was not intended to be replaced. Maybe one could be 3d printed?

That piece was a concern of mine as well. I'm wondering if maybe I should just drop the 50 bucks and get a complete replacement petcock. I know there is an alternative or two to the OEM one.

You are there and I am not, and it is your money not mine. All I can say is I have the petcock on my 77 (bought new) and have cleaned it a couple of times in that span and it works fine, no leaks or issues.

Here’s a less expensive option then the Pingle. I just picked it up and it seems nice quality. Haven’t mounted it yet.

My stock 1977 KZ650 petcock still works fine after more than 43 years (62,000+ miles). If it was mine I would just clean and reassemble it. If the little o-ring is damaged I would just replace it. Ed

OK Guys. I'll clean, replace what I can in it, and re-assemble. What do you guys use to clean the internal areas of the petcock?

OK. Hopefully last question here. I've ordered all the parts that I can for the petcock, and it's soaking in some Berryman's. I see that there is a large oval oring that goes around the groove of the petcock to seal it to the tank. What seals the bolts that attach to the tank? All the parts diagram shows is washers on the outside of the petcock. No orings or nylon washers for the space between the petcock and tank? Or do I seal the bolt with some sort of fuel safe sealant? Thanks for any assistance!!
