Aloha Guys.

Still collecting parts for my KZ/GPz and although I did some search on this site and on web, couldn't find what I was looking for. Maybe I used the wrong phrase ( I used modern carb on KZ).

Anyway, as the title suggest, is there any modern carb that will fit our beloved KZ or GPz motor? Looking on evilbay for carb on my KZ and whatever search I do, such as carb KZ or GPZ, can't seems to find what I'm looking for. Yes. there's Mikuni BS34, but looks like I have to sell my kidney to get one ( maybe cheap on evilbay, but the parts that's missing..........).

Is there any modern carb I can use? I can't find my RS carb I bought, and because bought the RS loooooooooooooong time ago, I don't have my stock carb on hand. For now, motor is stock, but I'm planning to put 4-1 pipe ( if I find my old Kerker, if not, I may get the pipe from Japan), cam (if I can find any), and if possible, run individual filter.

Any suggestion?
82' KZ750-R1 cafe racer style. Clip-on, Rear set, Fork-Brace, Mikuni Flat-slide (forgot the size), Kerker.
84' GPz750 (basket case). everything are in pieces.
89' ZX750-H1 (ZX-7 Ninja). Resurrection project are on going with my KZ750. Everything is stock.

Maybe a Keihin CR rack is available, but they tend to be race-oriented, so I don't know how street-able they are. And they run somewhere around $1000.

What is your budget? And I presume this is for a Kz750 in some form or another?

I restore carbs as a hobby and have a couple Keihin CV34 sets in process.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I see CR carb but as I mentioned before, I have RS somewhere in my house so I want to stay away from race carb/Smooth bore.

Nessism - my budget right now is to stay under $200. I know I have one good carb. Just can''t find it. So I want to stay under $200, But if push come to shove, I am willing to pay. But I see carbs on evilbay, although they are not modern carbs, so I may go though that route.

I never thought I'll be riding again, so my guess is I stashed it somewhere deep inside. Even though I thought I was never gonna ride again, I wanted to keep my prize carb and such (my Kerker pipe included).

you could try the carbs off a zephyr 1100. i believe the port spacing is the same.

A forum member here used ZX600 carbs on his 750. Since they are newer carbs there is less of that storage rot problem to deal with.

If you can find a decent set, you can probably use the carburetors from a 2000-05 ZR750 F H (ZR7 & ZR-7S). These are air-cooled models based on the KZ650/750 engine. The first link below is the only set I saw on eebbaayy & they're over-priced for the condition. Zephyr 750 carburetors are another option, but they would be pretty old.

Yeah, I had my eyes on that ZR carbs. Zep 750 carbs are OK too. At least they have partially flat part, which is somewhat smaller than the original round-slides.

The Keihin cvk32 carbs from a Zephyr 750, zr-7 or zx600a/b/c will work.
Zephyr 750 carbs are very hard to find as they were only used for two years and if you can find them they are expensive and will surely need to be completely rebuilt with new o-rings and float needles.
The zx600 carbs are very easy to find and for much cheaper. They are identical to the Zephyr carbs in all the important ways, except you will need to get the correct slide needles and main jets to work with your 750 motor. (That is a moot point if you are going to run pods as you will need a complete jet kit anyway regardless of the carbs you buy.) They have identical carb spacing to the zr-7 and Zephyr carbs.
The zr-7 carbs are also a great choice as they are already jetted for your motor (if you use an airbox) but they are very expensive and will surely need all new rubber bits. ($$$) The zr-7 carbs use two different emulsion tubes on cylinders 1&4 and 2&3, so if you buy a jet kit, you will have to get new emulsion tubes.
All of these options require that you get zr-7 head-to-carb boots. They can be found on auction sites for reasonable prices, as they can be bought new from Kawasaki but are almost $100.
Complete carb rebuild kits for the cvk32's are expensive at best (you will absolutely need to replace the o-rings on all the fuel pipes) and good jet kits run over $100. So trying to go this route is virtually impossible for $200.

From posts in the past, others have said the carb spacing on the Zx600 matches the carb spacing on the Kz/Zx550, which the 600 was based on. I thought the Kz750 spacing matched the 650 spacing, which matched the 1000 spacing. Did they make the Kz750 spacing different than the Kz650?

Someone on a Honda forum posted this as the Zx600 carb spacing, which is even closer together than what I measure on the 550.

1&2 and 3&4 (c to c) -67.5mm
between2&3 (c to c) -91.4mm


I measured several 550 carbs and the spacing was
1&2 and 3&4 (c to c) 71mm
between2&3 (c to c) 92mm

I'm not clear on where you live Ojisan, If you have significant altitude changes in your riding area you should stay with a CV carb. I've heard tales of the mighty flat side carbs but they aren't good for significant altitude changes. Here in CO I can change 7K feet in less than 90 minutes so CV's are a must.
I have BS34's on several bikes I own and have built. They work great for riding if you aren't closed track racing. I'd follow up with Nessism on his BS34 offer and price check those against your options.

The Zephyr 550 & 750, zx600a/b/c, and zr-7 cvk32's all use the exact carb spacing of 66-92-66 as measured by the exact centers of the bores.
They all use specifically offset intake boots that are different between the 550's and 750's. (the zr750 and zr-7 boots are identical)
As the cylinder head intake ports on a zr550 are identically spaced as the kz/gpz550 heads. Same with the zr750's and kz650/750's. They all just use different head-to-carb boots to accommodate the different carbs through the years.
