thinking about pods
14 Feb 2012 04:01
I'd love to get rid of the stock airbox on my csr. Is there anything I can do that doesn't involve rejetting?

One of the guys over on the SOHC Honda forums did a write up that accumulates a lot of information about Pod Filters with really detailed information. He writes it up with the Honda bikes in mind but it does apply. I am sure kzrider has just as many threads on the subject as well... Probably why you got a one word answer from the last guy because pod questions come up frequently.

Note:
Sorry for linking another forum, I haven't been through this one to see if there was a similar write up. The information was really useful to me and I have asked the same pod filter questions that would have all been answered if I had read the above write up first.

Technically, converting to fuel injection wouldn't involve rejetting, but if you are sticking to the same carbs, then Ed's answer is the short and sweet version.

On the upside, pods give you a new hobby to soak up all that free time you have.

Best bet is to do a search of Pods vs. Airbox make a night of it and by the time your eyes are bleeding you will have your answer. While I agree with ED completely you should get the whole story so you can't say you were not informed either way. It's not a simple question for some and very easy for others.

I have installed pods on about everything I own. The guys that have tried it once will tell you not to do it.
I will tell you,"If you are going to work on your bike a lot install the pods".
I keep a couple of sizes of pods in my cabinet at all times.
Just listen to the guys that run pods. Roy

I think that on all of the cycle forums I spend time on, this is the most polarizing subject on all of them. There are those that love the pods and those that hate them. I run pods and am happy with them. But it can be frustrating to tune the carbs correctly with them. If you take it on, you will learn more about your carbs that is for sure. You do need to know that it is not a simple bolt on change. Further, once you make the change to pods, you may learn that it did not create the changes you thought it might.
If you have not done so yet, you might want to check out this link. www.mediafire.com/?7ttgomzmmjz it is an article from Cycle World from Jan of 1983. Though dated somewhat it has some very good info in it on adding pods and the issues it can create.
As others have said do a search on this site for pods and you will find lots and lots of info, some indicating it is not worth it, and way too hard to get right and some that indicates it is worth it and not that hard to do.
I think it is a personal decision one has to make, much like many of the things one does or does not do to ones machine(s).

The original question in this thread was very simple:
"I'd love to get rid of the stock airbox on my csr. Is there anything I can do that doesn't involve rejetting?"
Folks can argue the pros and cons of pods, but I believe the answer to the original question is still the same: no.
If someone on this or any other site has replaced their airbox with pods and found their carbs did not need to be rejetted don't be shy about sharing your secret.

Agree with Ed here... He answered the question correctly (if you want your bike to perform correctly) If you don't, well.. I guess the answer could be yes,
Conversation could go something like this.
Can I install pods on my bike... YEP
Do I have to rejet to run pods... NOPE
Will my bike run if I don't rejet... YEP
Will my bike run better if I do rejet...YEP
Will I get bashed for running pods...MAYBE
Do I care if i get bashed for running pods...NOPE
BTW, I run pods and love them..
