Today, my buddy and me made a short visit to an amzing technical construction:

schiffshebewerk-scharnebeck.de/

A ship lift is a structure used to lower or raise ships from one canal, with a height difference of about 38meters, to another that goes further vthis way. The ships remain in their "own" water during this process!
Every tub, with ship, or without weight 6000 tons !!!  - See link above!

Afterwards, we drove a total of about 180 km along beautiful winding roads, and then across the Elbe by ferry, and then again on very winding roads through an very nice nature...great days it was!!!

Greetings, Joe

Saw a tv program about that ship transfer system on one of the cable tv science channels a few months ago.  Truly impressive engineering!

Are you saying "manually" winding the handles on a 10 lock step "isn't" easier than "pushing a button"
