Round 6 of 7 are done for this, my first year racing on my 1985 GPz550, and I'm having a great time. My times are lowering each outing, and I STILL get racers and people coming by saying, "I use to have one of these", "I raced one of these back in the day", I always wanted one of these", I raced against one of these", "This was my first race bike". . . The stories go on, followed by a big smile, and I ask if they want to sit on it. No one wants to, but deep inside I know they do.

Anyhow, Last weekend was the first outing with the 615cc engine installed, and the addition of the Zephyr ZR550 Oil Cooler. Oil temps are still in the 270-280 F F Range, and from what I've been told 260-270 F is the magic number for an air-cooled race bike. Better than the 290's I saw with the stock oil cooler. I'm getting the temps from the oil pan.

Here the only video I have from last weekend's Super Dinosaur Race, which allows any bike, any size pre 1999. Yep, there's even a guy on a 1973 KZ900.

Super Dinosaur Videos Part 1 and 2. I dare you not to lean in the corners with me. You can hear the foot pegs scrape on certain corners.

Next CV30 Carbs from a ZR550 Zephyr, a Motion Pro Revolver Throttle, the addition of my reconditioned Megacycle Cams, Some Factory Pro Dyno Tuning, Returning the fairing back on the bike for something to hide behind on the long straights, and I'm cutting 1/2 the stock foot pegs off(the outside 1/2) for more lean angle.

Well back int the day, the GPz550 was quicker than the GPz750. After I finish my current mods, I'll be changing out the complete front suspension from one off a 2006-2008 Ninja EX650, and the wheels and brakes too. My goal is to clone this bike. MOMBA2:

Looks like fun. Thanks for posting.

I like your idea for a winter project. That black bike is sweet.

glad to hear u are having fun Corey. the bike looks great.
So do u have more lean angle than the z1, allowing u to pull away from him in the corners?
dont they have any rules as far as keeping things close to stock for that era? i thought u had to keep the rt side up forks ? how about cc's ?

awesome pics...cool green one ..i just got an 84 and was thinking green and white colors for it ,when i get a new tank, like the colors in this pic below kinda...

how hard are gas tanks for the 84 to find used in your experience...i know you said you have a few bikes ..do you ever see used tanks for the 84 around?...i think 84-85 has a different tank than the 83 uni track too ,do you know what year tanks fit the 84 550?

thanks...

great race shots too

Ed has been progressing with that bike for more than 10 years. Mine, 1. Super Dinosaur id my main class, and it's anything, any size from bbefore 1999, so you can see where that puts me. The engine and the frame have to be correct, meaning I can't put a GPz750 engine in my GPz550 Frame(wouldn't want to anyways), so there you go.

My best times at Infineon are 2:03, and his are in the 1:54, so I can't pull him anywhere....just yet. His 900 is bored out, and has a lot of good old stuff on it, and it's not loud either.

Nice guy, and great bike.

Here's a video from that same Super Dinosaur Race fromt another racer's bike, and heguy passes me in turn 2, then about 1/2 way through the race, he reels in the KZ, only because the KZ had "no-clutch" issues, and that makes downshifting a pain:

trianglelaguna,

Nice bike there.B)

Seriously, there are way too many green Kawasaki's out there, that's why I keep mine the stock color it is. I'd like to get a ZRX, and yes, that will be in any color except green too.

Finding a gas tank for the '84-'86 isn't all that difficult, but most come with a bike. :woohoo: The '82-'83 H model tank is different than the '84-'86 A model tank. Ebay is your only hope.

Corey, I have and old Z1 Race bike and was thinking of getting it running so I could run in superdinosaur next year. I also have a 97 ZRX1100 that looks like I can run it in that class also. I live in San Leandro would like to hook up with you an talk about racing in you class.

I will need to see pictures of both of those bikes first.

Seriously. AFM as an online rule book, and Super Dinosaur Rules are not that restrictive. Great bunch of racers that come out. I'm 45 and having a blast racing in my first year.

E-Mail me through this site, or come out to Thunderhill October 2-3 and see the final.

is there any limitations on internal engine mods?
