As an aside, I am following another Z650 that my friend is building. It's where my GPz 750R1 engine came from, a bike which hadn't run for 25 years. The reason that engine was 'spare' was because this Z650 is undergoing an major make over. Its being rebuilt as a 90's era street fighter, powered by a GPz750 Turbo engine, taken out to 810cc and fitted with a bigger turbo, long with suspension and brakes from the 90's. The front end is from a ZXR750 in thick billet yolks, while the swing arm is from a ZRX1200. The latter not quite 90's, but close enough..

I think they are CMA wheels, an upgrade from the original heavy mag wheels back in the 80's.

Finally got tyres on the R6 wheels, front wheel went in, but the rear will have to wait as the cush rubbers I bought aren't the correct ones. At least I fitted the aftermarket stainless pillion grab handles. I wasn't going to bother fitting those, but pushing my other Z650B backwards up a slight incline, convinced me that they are needed.

Very nice, always great inspiration to get everything back together when the wheels are in place 😁👍

29 Apr 2025 16:42 - 29 Apr 2025 16:45I would replace the coil mount aluminum spacer with some PVC spacer, just my 2 cents.........
You risk a short cut to the frame mount on the hot wire coil connector screw under some rare cirumstance and lack of clearance!
Nice wheels you choose, i love it. See the next future BOTM.........

I agree, insurance against shorts. I found some plastic spacers at the local hardware store. I think they are 1/2" OD with a 1/4" ID.

Indeed, the spacers are too close to the low tension screws. I got round that last time by filing a flat on each spacer to give enough clearance.

I made aluminum spacers for the Dyna coils on my 650 project. I covered them with heat-shrink tubing to provide insulation from shorting out.
