Re: KZ650 cafe-racer
15 Jul 2022 06:10Thanks Wookie, had forgotten about that.Hello Folks,
I received this message from gazzz yesterday. I had asked him if there was a way we might contribute funds to help him out.
"Thank you for your good words and your help. Hope one day I will return to my projects. Only yesterday PayPal opened for Ukrainians option to receive money from friends and family. Before that we had only the option to make payments. My PayPal address isThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. I will not spend money on myself.
No one knows when this war will be over, so I would like to help my family and Oksana (my partner in Gazzz Garage) to get a fresh start in Germany.
Kind regards,
Nazar"
Come on folks this is something we can do.
I'm already in.
Bill

15 Jul 2022 23:12Nice idea. I'll ask gazzz if I can post his paypal address.
I meant sending to you to help buy the things he needs or is it better to send directly to his PayPal?

Better to send it directly to him. I think he has everything he needs at the moment and supporting his family is the priority. I paid for some of the stuff and he sent the money for the rest of it. I'm only out of pocket for the amount I could afford to give, so all good here.

I've been offline for a bit but I got a message from gazzz last week. He's doing OK but is still on the front lines. He said he'll try and write a bit more soon.

Hi! Thank you all for keeping your fingers crossed for me!
Just wish to let you know that I am alive and kicking. It's my third month at the front line. I think it's not time yet to speak freely about things I have seen and about my job here. However, if short, my job is to cause as much harm as possible to enemy forces. It does not include (so far) direct fire contact with the enemy, but it does include being at the receiving end of shelling. So I managed to be under all kinds of these things: artillery and air strikes, tank and IFV indirect fire, MLRS launches, mortar shelling and missile strikes. And so on and so forth. I got a number of close calls, but was lucky not to get injured. At one occasion I found myself (along with other guys) buried in a small basement, so we had to dig ourselves and then hide from drones that were correcting enemy fire. And I still could clearly remember a 120mm mortar shell that fell some 20-25 meters from me but never exploded causing only a fountain of earth. I could tell a number of such stories and some of them are really funny once one is looking back at them. But I think I'd better keep them untold until my duty is fulfilled.
It's unlikely that I will return to my workshop anytime soon. So the song “I’ll Be Home For Christmas (If Only In My Dreams)” is as relevant for me as it was for many US soldiers back in 1943.
Meanwhile, here is a piece of story I could post for sure. I am not photoshooting here much, since it's mostly destruction and devastation. But I am glad I had an occasion to shoot this short video.

That is a beautiful video, the landscape looks very much like my home in Eastern Nebraska which is also an agricultural area. I can't imagine living through the horrors of war that you are now experiencing in your homeland.
