I was able to get a little time in the shop today. I have been trying to get my head around this mono shock linkage stuff. I was mainly concerned if the shock moved fore and aft through its travel. It does! I was then able to figure top mount placement.

Originally it was going to be like this :

But I do not like the looks. So I swapped it around and:

it is better but still not liking the loks much. It would be stout either way. If I go with sidecovers prolly not a biggie but I may go with this look, son is into the cafe thing)

I am thinking of cutting the back brace and moving it down so it is level with the shock brackets or replacing it with a tube.

Here is the bottom mount:

Feel free to make suggestions. I may be in a bit over my head but it is fun!

Looking at the pics I remember why I had it like in the first pic. It places that part of the angle under the tube which would help carry the shock load.

I will do that tomorrow. I went back out to the shop last night and cut that rear brace off and lowered it to match the front of the shock mount. It will work much better and give me more optins if I go the cafe route.

What was the angle on the bottem mono shock bracket when you cut it off the gpz frame?
Id try matching it up as close as possible on the bottem bracket and then build the suspension up from that point, might save you a lot of head scratching anyway B)

I think I am pretty close to the angle of the donor but some old guy was using my computer and deleted my reference pics :woohoo:

I reread your post. I thought you were talking shock angle. The bottom bracket on the donor sat almost vertical. However when I had it like that the shock hit the swingarm. I had to lean the top towards the rear to make it clear. I have spent alot of time mocking up the shock and checking clearance through the travel range. I think I am good. I would like a pic of the actual shock angle in a GPZ though.

That's why I was thinking if you got bottem angle right it would make it easier to do everything else B)

it could be quite easy for me to take side pics of my my gpz750 based racer (same suspension/swing-arm). just let me know.

would dump that lousy stock shock ASAP. any GSXR750-1100 shock from 88' to 95' is essentially a bolt on and way lighter as well as adjustable. you can find them in ebay for peanuts.

Thanks turboguzzi, I checked out those shocks and am just watching for the best deal. A pic would be okay but I am not sure I would change anything at this point. Can the adjusters on the GPZ arm be used to straighten the wheel? Have one in slightly different rotation than another? And what is the best way to adjust these? I have seen alot of theses adjusters looking pretty beat up.

29 inches to center of original shock stud(note adjuster). I don't know what stock height is but this is 3 inches higher than with my stock extended arm.

Some Questions

What is measurement from floor to center of shock stud on a stock KZ?

How are these eccentric (GPZ) adjusters used? Can they be at different points to align wheel like the stock KZ adjusters?

Thanks
