Louisville,just south of Omaha.
Ive done a lot of big commercial/institutional boiler and plumbing jobs out in the grand island/Kearney area though
Most of those furnace transformers are 120/208/240 primarys with 24v sec and 40va,usually its just the mounting that's a little different is all

Well the transformer didn't do the trick although the other one was toast. This is messin with my project time!
What do you think Wireman? control valve? I have 24 volts to it, 24 to the limit control(both sides) pilot works. Not much too this thing. Its an old closet type, wall mount trailer furnace. Here is a pic of the wiring and the control unit.
Thanks

Start with simple things.
Check stat,if it only has heat with no cooling just take your 2 wires (probably red and white) at the stat and twist them together till you get furnace running.
If it comes on theres your problem.
Then check the roll out switches around burner compartment/heat exchanger area, check for continuity across the switches(some of them have reset buttons).
If all else fails and you just want to jump to the end of the book you can always just jump directly from the 24v side of transformer to the gas valve for a quick second to see if the valve opens, that would be a go/no go test.
Let me know what you find out

15 Jan 2013 09:33 - 15 Jan 2013 13:35tHANKS, DIDN' MEAN TO YELL  Should I here a click in the control unit? Can they be taken apart? I see in the diagram it has a vent saftey, what is that? I will add another pic, this is of the burner. If I can eleiminate a few things from being the problem it will help. Beingpilot stays lit I assume itis not thermocoupler?wireman wrote: Start with simple things.

I WANT TO TRY THIS. DO I TAKE ONE WIRE FROM TRANSFORMER TO THE 24 VOLT TERMINAL ON THE CONTROL UNIT AND THE OTHER TO THE THERMOSTAT TERMONAL ON THE CONTROL UNIT?

Hey from the UK
I'm also a heating engineer - domestic stuff. Yep, you,re right, if pilot stays lit the thermocouple is ok. (The thermocouple allows the gas valve to stay open by a solenoid action) 'Cos it only stays on a pilot flame, the valves that allow more gas to the burner, and therefore full flame, aren't opening. Could be a dodgy 'stat or dodgy gas valve (stat more common fail) hope this helps ya a bit - good luck
Cheers

Thanks. I started out knowing very little and now I know just enough to be dangerous! Hopefully sort it out tonight so we can get back to our regularly scheduled program.

Vent safety switch looks like a roll out switch to me ,should be somewhere in circuit around burner compartment incase of flame roll out or high temp

FYI, my furnace is now working thanks to you Wireman! I was ready to kill my installer. 3 years of this and has done nothing but gotten worse. Mommy happy, I'm happy.
P.S.
I'm a tightass! I wouldn't hire someone to fix it!

Kind of tight myself Les! after testing every circuit I jumped right to the control valve and could hear it working. Finally found a wirenut that wasn't making contact with both wires. I must have did it when I replaced the faulty transformer. Thanks for the help guys.
