yeah I will get a couple hours tonight to play around with it. I been bouncing ideas off my son inlaw (he helps build 1000 plus hP pulling tractors) but I dont think he realizes the flex of these plumbers pipe frames.

gonna have him pick up aother section of DOM today while he is at the shop. I keep having visions rolling into a curve and snap!

Leon is dead on and I'll tell you why. From looking at the picture your shock and mounting are slightly pointing to the back meaning if it were to give way it would fold up towards the tire. When putting bracing in you want them designed in tension, in other word pulling against forces, not in a compression or shear state. For lack of a better description, in tension it acts like a chain pulling, very strong, with the opposite, in compression it has the ability to fold up or shear through the adjoining tube.
Putting that thing on the ground is a proud moment, get the pics up quick!

great job. i made mine the same way, but in stainless.
can u get the bat out without unbolting the box? i didnt mount mine as low as i should have. so i have to unbolt the box ,so i can tilt it back to remove the bat.

Its tight but the battery slides right out. i have very limited welding experience, and very few tools available where I am working on it. would love to take my time with the right tools.

worked in a fab shop in my 20's for a couple years, we had state of the art equiptment for the day.
loved it but made an unwise career change.

I got up this morning, loaded the car with what I could remember I needed.
Nothing on the schedule except for fabricating on the bike my girl with me,
the kid at school headin to the shop by 7:30am

Decided to stop by work and check on my weekend superviser.
Bad move he didn't show up or call me.
Friday is payday so I had 40 people freaking out about their paychecks,
and couldn't get shold of my 2nd shift sup to cover so foiled again!
it's 8:40am and I am stuck at work in my shop clothes not my work clothes.
ugly morning!

anyway got everyone paid fired my weekend guy set up someone to cover for
tomorrow and off to the bike. it's around 1:30 or 2 but heres what I got done

had to build a mount for the junction box


my hole is too small for the grommet will have to
deal with that when I have the tools to ream it a little



ok The macked up wirining is getting some attention
after everything is mounted. I had high hopes for
an all over wiring job this winter, but thats not
to be.

I am undecided on the voltage regulater mount it seems that and a flasher
will be the only thing on the right side, until i get rect/reg combo
I think remounting it on the left side will clean up some wiring

I spent some time making a mount but will probably change it.

i spent too much time on the other side to be undecided

there is something to be said for slowing down and doing 1
thing at a time.

I had to shave about 1/32 off the rubber grommets so I can get the
battery out, without disassembling anything





hopefully tomorrow I can get some time to clean up
the welds and get my other brace done

Didn't get to go to town and work on my conversion today so we stayed
in KY did some honey do'd and worked on getting the some things cleaned
and painted



decided to go ahead and paint the battery box may have
to redo it but if i dont get to it it's at least black




Used textured paint to hide my lack of prep and
propper finishing

my plan was to buy a new header this winter, but with mycurrent financial
situation that isn't a top priority so the paint on the collector did well
this summer so i decided to paint the header.


not having any sand for the sand blaster I spent several
hours with the 40,60 and 80 grit I dint get any pic's
except a couple when I first started sanding.


The collector was easier to heat set i hung it and stuck a heat gun
in it and ran it for an hour let it cool and did it a few more times


Tried the same thing ran it for about 2 hours it got hot but I dont
think hot enough so when my girl ran to the store

Spent the day at home doing honey-do's and working on getting
some things cleaned up and painted

then blasted it with textured paint to hide my lack of
grinding and finishing work

I painted the collector on my Header last year it seemed to
hold up OK and with my preaent financial situation no new Header
this winter (like I planned) So I got it out and started sanding
no sandblaster available. only 40,60, and 80 grit paper

When I did the collector I used a heat gun to set my paint coupples
hours let it cool and did the a few times and it came out ok

Tried the Heat gun again but it just wasn't getting hot enough
I dont want to pull the collector in fear of scratching everything
up trying to put it on

The High heat header paint is almost like a powder and the heat turns it
into a high temp coating it will almost rub right off until it is heat set

so as soon as my Girl went to the store
