that new smaller battery will be a great space saver.
i have my battery box mounted sideways like that too. i have a conventional battery and it will not come out unless i unbolt the box and do a lot or wiggling to get the battery out then turned 90*. a bit of a pain.
Nice job.

Ok so today I got some motivation and did a little work, I finished mounting the battery box and made an inner fender out of some 1/8 aluminum plate.
First I welded a plate across the frame, this will keep every thing flat and even. Once I had the plate welded in I cut out the center to fit the battery box,Then drilled and taped 4 6mm holes to hold it down.
Then I took some cardboard and made a template for the inner fender, Once I had the basic shape I traced it out on a peice of 1/8 aluminum plate. Cut that out and took a grider with a flaper wheel and shaped it to a good fit inside the frame rails. Then I took some 1/8 inch flat bar and made some mounting tabs for the fender. I split the differnce of the dia of the frame rail tubeing so the fender would sit in the center of the inside of the frame rails. All in all it turned out ok.

Thanks guys, it felt good to put some time in on the old girl this weekend it has been awhile, I worked so much through the holidays havent had any time to work on it. I am trying to get all the frame welding done this month so I can get it out to the powder coater. Then I can finish up all the machining of the covers, and custom parts I need to get done, this project has gone on to long and I have another kz1000 behind this one. DOES IT EVER END!!!!!!!!!!!

So I am sitting in the shop just looking at my inner fender and I was not happy with it, it needed to drop down to cover the battery and a little of the shock to keep some of the road crap off. So I bent a peice on the table and got the angles that I was looking for and welded it to the first section. It worked out ok I can still remove it easy, after it is powder coated it will look ok. My sheet metal skills are weak as hell so I know that I could not bend it in one shot, so it is what it is.
