I feel like I have a vibration at a certain rpm. It was there before I tore my carb apart and got all the cylinders running and I thought it was because the 1 cylinder wasn't firing correctly....but now that its firing correctly, its still vibrating. Could this be rubber engine dampers on the engine mounts? or the rubber gourmets for the exhaust? It vibrates after about 4k. It doesn't go away the higher in the rpms. Just gets progressively worse. I havnt really got to do too much problem solving on this issue as I just got it running and this was my next task but had to go to work.

Check your alternator rotor, damaged magnets put it out of balance. This is quite a common problem on the later GPz. Just pull the left hand casing off, lean the bike over to avoid oil spillage.

Had this on mine, tingling vibration through the bars and a half arsed charging system. The rotor magnets had been badly repaired, rotor's for those are hard to find now.

I feel like it is on the front left area which is why I thought it was cylinder 1. I need to change my oil anyways so Ill try to get to looking at that this week.

Also make sure all the engine mount bolts are properly tightened. Ed

Just noticed it is an 82, the later z1000 / 1100 were quite bad for this, it is a known fault so the rotors are an in-demand part. Twisted crank possible but much less likely.

There are a couple of other less desirable bikes that share the same part number uses, GPZ500 twin I think. Plenty of info here.

Ok so I uploaded a video, hopefully you can hear it. It kinda sounds like a slapping valve or something. I have no idea.

Yea so maybe its not such a vibration as it is more of a noise. Im wondering, maybe since the first cylinder was not firing, the valves got gunked up in that cylinder and are sticking or something.

So I got around to checking my calves out and checking the clearances. All decent, cylinder 4 is a little snug but it's doing its job. The vibration noise is coming from around cylinder 1...when pulling everything off and inspecting around cylinder 1 valves it looks like the person before me was lazy and used excessive amounts of silicone sealant rather then replacing the gasket for the valve cover and some of it was pushed/leaked into the exhaust lob area of cylinder 1 cam. It was damn near formed to the end of the cam...could this be my problem? The cam spinning faster and faster against the hardened sealant to cause this issue?

OUCH!!! Those are reportedly machined with the actual head they are being used on... I don't know if you can simply replace it without remachining, called line boring.
Never had a broken one.
I wonder if epoxying it together and a retorque the four bolts correctly... IN POUNDS ... could hold it together.

You might have to buy a turd of a head somewhere, like at a moto bone yard and have it redone.
I bet someone here has had this happen and knows if it is that critical..... sorry to see that,
