Obviously not finished yet. We didn't have any 023 at the shop... smallest we had was 035.. which is too much.

I'll finish it this coming week and will update again.

Your going to mig weld that ? And I thought you wern't going to use any filler.

Well, it's 20-22 gauge, and TIG will warp. Heat concentration. 023 and low setting on mig will fill it.

Who said I wasn't gonna use body filler? I'm making an aluminum tank for the bike too... this is just the temp tank. After this is replaced with the aluminum tank Trav has dibs on this one.

I was just paging though pics and came across one of the bike the day I got it home.

A little compare and contrast shall we? lol

And after actually measuring I found that chances for warpage are higher with TIG than MIG. That's what happens when you know what you are doing, you measure, and you look at all the options.

come on guys this is turning into an orange county chopper episode again! lets get back to building things and see what this tank ends up like!

In reguards to the warping. I dont know alot about welding , but what about a heat type stress releiving. Just a thought.

The problem is that you have to get the two pieces welded together before they warp and pull apart from each other. Keep in mind it's just sheetmetal. Once they are welded the stresses are old news. TWT is trying to get the right wire and setup so that he can leave the welds exposed.

Exactly. The problem is that the thicker the wire is, the ihgher the power needs to be to melt it obviously. (that's a very simplified version.) And the higher the power, the more chance you will burn a hole through. :thumbup:

So, TWT, when you getting that other wire? You got the crescent-shaped pieces for the front of the dents cut out yet?

As for paint & bondo & whatnot... you know what I'd do, don't ya? That's right, CHROME! (But that's me...)

I should be getting access to some 023 wire this week. If we don't have any by Wednesday I'll just go pick some up and bring it in to get this done.
