Yeah, it would be a shame to paint it. The pivot bolt is the next hurdle. There's one spot I can't drill through. One side is fine but the other side I need at least 1/2 inch more. Forgot the cobalt bit when I was at HD. Tried to sharpen the CHINESE bit, it's wasted. Even a US 5/8 bit wouldn't cut it. Jeff told me to cut then the lengths I need then and he'll try going in the back door. :unsure:

those things can be a bear.
if it gave me much trouble i would cut off each end that the bearings ride on and square em up.
then i would figure out how much of a spacer i needed to make to keep them out where they needed to be and just have a 3 piece center bushing.
it will be a little tricky to get installed but if you feed a tapered punch etc through the one side to keep em lined up, you could stick the pivot bolt through the other side and once it was all in situ and tight you have it captured and it can't go anywhere.

Gotcha. I can't find a cobalt bit in 5/8. I picked up a irwin high speed bit and will try it. The other side has plenty of length, it's the side with the large end that runs the seal I'm fighting. The small side I'll weld on a washer then drill it and grind it smooth. It's plenty deep. The big side I will cut off the nut part and sweat solder the threads or maybe weld. That way I won't need a spacer.In any event a piece of EMT would work for that.
I do like your bushings though. :unsure:

The Irwin bit worked. Took my time, cut, oiled, removed over and over. In about 4". Plenty of depth. B) I'll able to adjust the nominal width of the bushings tomorrow. The bearings were all crusted up. Flushed with diesel and worked them until free. Have it filled with my chain saw gas to sit overnight then flush and work them again. Getting closer. B)

So close, yet so far. I'm concerned fastening the shock to the bottom mount by only the threads might be too weak. I think I'll cut some thinner plates for the inside. I'll order new sprockets and a 104 link chain as well. Still a ways off.

Cut the old pivot shaft and made my bushings. PITA That little welder is a POS. I'll do a little clean up later. If nothing else I have templates to be copied. They'll work but I like Leon's top hats better.

One bushing seemed too loose so Jeff made my some new ones. Wasn't easy. The drills barely cut it, his mill bit was too large so he cut the last one to length and used his boring bar. Had to come in from both sides. Nice and tight.

I think I know the answer to this but I'd like some suggestions. I'm ready to fit the arm to the bike. I have three bushings made of different thicknesses and some shims if needed. I'm looking at two makes of O ring chains, DID or RK. The difference in price is about $20. I figure 98 link will be enough but I won't order until I have it on and splice a short section to the chain I have now for the actual count.
Which would you buy, DID or the cheaper RK? If one is made in CHINA, it will be SHT canned.

Both DID and RK has been around for ages and if one of them has moved production to China doesn't automatically turn it in to crap.
The US most hailed products with half eaten apples are basically all made there and they have a hole bunch of customers telling everybody it's the shit.

So as long as u stay with the known brands, where can u go wrong.

Thanks. I'm gun shy about anything CHINESE especially chains after one almost killed or stranded me in the Mojave heat two summers ago.






I will never buy anything that the seller won't tell where it's made. That means pistons, chains or anything my life depends on. Ebay protects them. I don't give feed back until I know it fits and is quality. Right now I'm waiting on a sprocket that was shipped the cheapest way possible. I'm being hounded for feed back, F'em they can wait. :angry:
