Hello>>>
I have made my own triple trees....mostly because using "stock" gsxr or other such front ends usually ends up with rather limited steering>>>>not too bad on the street but makes parking lot turns a pain in the arse.
I have half a dozen or so top clamps here as well as 2 bottom clamps(they have a headlight bracket built in)
they are based off the stock geometry of a gsxr 1000.
if you search "pen's Z1" in the projects section there is quite a bit of info there.

I am working up north for the winter so I only get back for 8 days every 20 days away>>>let me know if there is something you need and maybe I can help you out.

then knocked the stem out of the old tree with a punch and hammer.

it has a step machined on the stem which makes my job easier.

the o.d. of the kz stem and the i.d. of the zx stem are just about.010 thsnths different.so i chucked up the zx tree and bored the stem out for a light press fit for the kz stem.

i then took it to the mill and milled the stem flat with the tree and pressed the kz stem into the zx tree.

the kz tree is thinner than the zx tree,so the kz stem only goes about two thirds of the depth in to the zx tree.that is enough,i will weld the kz stem to the bushing (zx stem)that i built and this will lock them together.the snap ring that is left on the zx(bushing)stem will keep them from going any where.no need for a set bolt.

that is the rundown on installing a kz stem in a zx tree.

Thanks for the info and pictures. Using the old stem as a bushing is a nice idea.

once the stem was in the lower tree the hole in the upper clamp had to be be milled out and the boss around the bottom of the hole needed milled down .100 thsnths.also had to take the kz washers for the stem bolt and machine a holder so that i could cut down the o.d. of the washers in the lathe as they were too big on the o.d..the stem bolt was rusty and i spun it and tried to sand most of the rough stuff off.i forgot to take the camera with me so i have only the assembled pics after i went back in the house.
