I agree with Rob zed1015, i have always cleaned the connections throughout the harness's on my bikes and have never used the weird George botch, have never been short on voltage at the coils. Your bike needs a proper service and all connections cleaning by the sound of things.

I went through my bike looking for the voltage drop to my voltage regulator (brown wire), including the fuse block and ignition switch, but was unsuccessful. I did not dissect the entire harness wire by wire, but I did spend and afternoon cleaning connectors and taking the ignition switch apart. I took the easy way out and added in a relay at the main plugs to stop my bike from overcharging. Not the right way to do it, but I couldn't find the bad connection. :-(

In the process I was even able to break a tab off of the ignition switch taking it apart. duh

As known, set gap first, then set timing.

Good Fortune! :)

If the 2-3 contact breaker doesn't fully close no matter how you adjust the 2-3 points plate (the flat piece the points attach to) perhaps the backplate (the flat round piece that the points plates attach to) needs to be turned somewhat. If none of the adjustments allow the points to fully close maybe they are not the correct points for the engine. What part number was on the points package? Ed

I have a 81 kz750 parts bike. Will the electronic ignition work on my 78 kz650?
