Today I was going to visit a campsite to have a good time with other Kawasaki club members. Unfortunatly my Z650 fitted with a Dyna S was doing a bad job during 3 hours of rain fog en heavy showers. The engine started running several times on 2 or 3 cilinders, especially whe cars made a lot of "spray". This was something NEVER happend with the contact breakers. So I had to return home. I only switches the ignition plates.
What is your solution or what is the problem in this case??

My first suggestion would be to check your point cover gasket. I've had a Dyna S on my Z1R for 3 years and haven't had a single problem with it. Good luck. Ride safe...........B) B)

Put some water in a windex type sprayer bottle and direct the spray onto the plug wires and boots with the bike running. I bet you will find the problem.
Ride safe,

A long shot... no my 1977 KZ650-B1 there is a very small breather hole at the bottom of the breaker cover. Check that it is unobstructed. This is where condensation and or seepage water should drain out. Best of success.

My wife does not let me to take the 650 under the shower ( I did with the Z900 head to clean it). I think I try the spray gun with compressor. Could it be possible that the Dyna's give such a higher voltage that the wires wil leak earlier???

Cheers

What front fender do you have on there? I tried a shorter LTD fender on my bike, and when it rained, I got water spray up under my gas tank soaking the coils. My engine started dying slowly, then all together. Took the tank off and the coils were dripping with water. Toweled them off, and she started right up. I'm now using the longer stock fender again, plus I sprayed electrical Igniton sealer on all the electrics and coils.

I do have a long fender on it, but I suppose that fog/moist which is created by cars driving in front will give the same problem. ( at least what I noticed).

Still problems!! We went on a 4 day trip with some really heavy showers wenn the xxxxthing started running on 3 or even 2 cilinders. I was in good company because a KZ1000 from 1978 had exactly the same problems. We had to wait for about 2 hours before we good ride off...

How new are your plug wires, coils and plug caps? I suspect that the problem exists between the coils and the plugs. Any small crack in the wire or coil housing will allow a short circuit and the high voltage of the secondary will find this quicker than the low voltage DC from the Dyna/breaker points to the coils.

When a coil cracks, it tends to short when it rains. I have a set of very cracked Dyna coils that did the same thing when it was damp out and fixed them with epoxy. They work fine now.
