What are the visual differences between the VM24 cabrs and the vm28 carbs both having the accelerator pumps? Will the size of the main jet help determine the carb size? I got a few sets of carbs that i've had for a while and now I'm trying to figure out the sizes.

Measure carbs inner diameter on engine side for size. A VM24 will be 24 mm across a VM28 will be 28mm across. You could concievably get the same main jet in a heavily modified application for a VM24 and a bone stock VM28.

The jetting is a poor way to ident carbs. The main difference between the 24 and 28 is that the 24 has horizontal ribs along the entire body of each carb. GENERALLY, the 24 accelerator pump has a TWO pumps so the bottom of the #2 carb bowl will have a rounded piece attached. The 28 pump generally doesn't use the second diaphragm and the bottom will look flat and like there is a piece missing. Beware, there is a 26 pump assy out there and it LOOKS the same as the 28 except has two fuel inlets, and uses a lower diaphragm. I will do a carb ident guide eventually on my web site as my customers often need help identifying their carburetors they send to me.

Thanks. It looks like may have a set of 26's with accelerator pump. My set does not have the horizontal ribs, but it has a lower diaphram on bowl #2 and it has 2 fuel inlets.

If these are actually 26's w/pumps are rebuild still availabel and does this make them more valuable than regular 26's without pumps? Will 26's w/pumps out perform regular 26's without pumps?

Pitch the 26's and get a set of 28's at a minimum. A set of 29mm smoothbores will get a chub on ya for sure. Anything better than that you will explode in waves of orgasmic pleasure,
