okay, so after checking my carbs all over again and again, I finally checked the parts diagram on Buy Kawasaki and it has caused me to come up with a new question:

Part number 92066-1051 (#37 in the diagram) is the "Pilot Screw Plug." It is apparently designed to cover the air screw so that it can't be adjusted by accident. Is this cap supposed to be flush with the housing around it, slightly above the housing or sunken below? Do my carbs have this cap with a needle hiding undernieth? (1980 KZ550c with TK carbs)

My clymers manual was absolutly no help in the matter.

Thanks, all!!

The plugs are there to keep the idle mixture adjustment from being tampered with (emmissions dealit thing). Every set of carbs I have come across have had the plugs already removed. If you can see the passage with a little brass screw down in it on each carb, then the plugs have obviously been removed. If not, you can run a drill bit into the plug and pull it out when the bit catches.
