I picked up a '79 SR650 cheap but it doesn't carburate good. Is there a better carb stup that would be better than the vaccuum style that is currently on it?
Thanks

I cant believe no one ever answer this post. Its best to just rebuild it. You need to explain the symptoms of the bike and what its doing!

I missed this one.

Welcome baja454. As kzwolfsr said, you can salvage what carbs you have with a good cleaning and some new parts if needed.

Give us some more info on the bike. Lets us know if your using the stock set up, as in the factory airbox, exhaust etc., or have individual air filters (pods) and an aftermarket exhaust (type?).

Give us some pictures of your SR as well. B)

The stock Mikuni's work very well in stock or modifided bikes. A good cleaning and a careful rebuild with proper jetting, etc will result in a smooth running machine

Welcome and before someone else says it. It is a good idea to put your model and year of your bike and your location in your signature. That will save questions on which model you have and maybe a member who is close can help you. your signature can be modified in your profile....How'd I do guys?B) B) B)

Oh yeah.I agree..maybe you can rebuild the old ones.

Welcome baja454! As another new guy hear as well, I can say wholeheartedly that this is THE place to be.
Sounds like your bike has CV carbs on it? Someone pulled the ol switcheroo as your SR should have the tried and true slide/needle type on it. The orig carbs are a cake-walk to tune and are plentiful on Ebay.

Good luck with her!
