Hello,
I have a 1980 kz440a that was given to me this last spring. Due to the advice in this forum I have been able to at least get the bike to turn over and idle. Thanks for all the help.

My current problem is the idle speed. It's way too high, about 3000 rpm. When I take the carb off and look into it should the (throttle)flaps be completely closed (perpendicular to airflow) or should they be opened slightly? Also, the cylinder head seems unusually hot, I'm assuming that the high idle speed is causing this, but cannot be certain.

Another problem is that the left side only fires occasionally. When I spray starting fluid into it during idleing it seems to go for a while quite nicely but then goes back to intermitant firing after about 30 seconds.

Thanks in advance for your help.
