i am about to buy some gauges for syncing up my carbs. i see that many gauges go to 38 cm hg. others go to 78 i think cm of hg. what is the correct ones for a kz?

The 38's (?). I think that 16 +/-2cm is about the spec. Am at work do not have my manual. It will depend on what spec you sync to.

IMVHO the carbtune II is my fav way to balance carbs on the zed.

The actual reading isn't that important. What is important is that you get the same reading for all 4 carbs. But one that goes to 38 hg/cm should work fine since normally you will have a reading of 18~24 on a warm engine.

And I agree with Cactus, the Morgan carbtune is a delight to work with, and there is no mercury to mess with. And when you plan to buy a balancer you should keep in mind that balancers using mercury will soon be banned by law in most parts of the world. Motion Pro do sell their tool, but they do no longer supply the Mercury for it.

I believe the Motion Pro carb sync tools that are still being sold will be the last, once they are gone. I believe California has tightened rules on mercury and the Motion Pro mercury sticks are no longer available direct from Motion Pro or their main distributors although some are still likely floating in the system. I believe they also have non-mercury product for sale as non-mercury appears to be the way of the future.

I used a refrigeration gauge set, a schraeder fitting with 3/16" tube, and 25' of 3/16" clear tubing from H-depot. The low side gauge reads vacuum down to 30".
Started with: #1=8.0" #2=5.0" #3=2.5" #4=8.0"
Finished with all set at 5.0".
It took me a while, but what a freakin difference.
