How to Tell if Emission Controlled or Non-Controlled

Hey guys,

I want to adjust the pilot screws on my 1978 LTD, but my manual gives different directions based on if the bike is 1977-1978 non-emission controlled or 1978 emission controlled. It says emission controlled bike were made after January 1st 1978. How can I find out when my bike was manufactured?

Emissions standards were evolving year over year back in those days.  I'd ignore the factory settings, and adjust for best running in modern times, using modern gasoline.

The date of manufacture is printed on a white label on the steering head part of the frame.
1982 KZ1000 LTD parts donor
1981 KZ1000 LTD awaiting resurrection
2000 ZRX1100 not ridden enough

Emission refers to the implementation of the Air Switch Valve and different cam covers. Also using "pumper" type carbs. They used this system starting in the 1979 KZ1000 model. KZ650 and 750 also adopted this air exhaust induction system too. The Production 1978 KZ1000 didn't really have any of this.
