Choke Assembly Diagram on KZ750?
17 Jul 2025 11:56
As I have stated here, thank God for this message board and the info.
Re-assembling my 1983 KZ750 L3 carbs and could reallly use a photo or diagram of how the choke rod and choke assemblies go together ... does one exist? The PDF of the manual I have does not, and Partzila's "fiche" is not helpful.
I have a spare set of 1984 KZ700 carbs here but they are not the same.
TIA

The carbs are clean and complete. Might be able to do a test start next week. Thanks to all.
I used some china parts and mostly OEM Kawi so this will be interesting. The bike has not run in 15-20 years.

Did you manage to save the small balls and springs for the choke rod? They are often lost by people that don't realize they are in there.

Ditto Ed's comment! They are in #2 and #3 carbs where rod passes thru. Without them all the Choke Plungers will always "sorta" be ON. Don't know if Your 750 plungers have a spring per assy?

We lost one but upon reassembly it works fine. They stay closed.
Learned a lot with these carbs. I still don't understand why the pilot jet chamber needs to be plugged but I put it back together the way it came apart.

Truly a convoluted way to get an air and fuel mixture into a cylinder.
CV carbs were bad enough but then when they were half destroyed by rotting ethanol they became a boat anchor on 1980s and 1990s streetbikes.
It's no wonder younger techs in a motorcycle shop won't even touch a bike with carbs.

Speaking of rotting ethanol fuel, did you replace all the various O-rings?
Honestly, the CV carbs of the era, both the Keihin CV34 and Mikuni BS34, run really nicely. Biggest problem, and it's fairly rare, is torn diaphragms. Everything else is relatively easy to fix.
Regarding missing one of the choke spring detent assemblies, I'd be concern it will open due to vibration. A ball should be easy to match up at a good auto parts store. The spring would be more challenging, but should be doable.
