I never claimed the bike ran fine. It ran like crap after multiple attempts at rejetting and I was sick of dealing with it. When I bought it it didn't run at all. Yeah if It had the original airbox and the carbs didn't look like they were pulled out of a swamp I would have left it stock and been perfectly happy.

Aaaand this is why I usually avoid forums. I didn't need a bunch of crap about "wasting my money" or why the clapped out POS carbs that had been sitting in a barn for a few decades are so much better. I got all the rust out of the tank but for a little surface rust that isn't an issue. You dont like Murrays carbs? Fine I didn't ask for opinions on that. I was just seeking some possible ideas from someone that may have them on their bike. To those few who were actually encouraging. Thank you. I guess I will just keep working on this thing myself without the helpful advice of the experts. This thing sat in a barn in New Mexico for decades and im pretty proud of my work thus far considering my limited knowledge.
Nobody is trying to "beat down" on you, you have a great looking bike (as it stands now in the pic) we were simply trying to point out that for less money you could have a better set up as intended by the factory,  there are a couple of guys on here that could have restored your carbs for less than the cost of the Murray alternative. Opinions expressed by the members are exactly that, "opinions" many of whom have decades of experience to draw on when offering advice. Whether or not you chose to take the advice offered is of course optional. I genuinely hope you get the bike running as good as it looks and enjoy it.
Be well

Hi Motorat, just out of interest, what is the engine number of your bike? From the photo you have done a good job of clearing it up after the years in a barn.

You've been given the advice of collectively some 250 years worth of experience. Take it or leave it, your choice. You know best.
Your attidute and honesty will either leave that wealth of knowledge and experience open to you or close it leaving you to find your own way.
Despite your protestations your original post in newb guy post stated you rode it home and it ran good and only after trying to restart it, you couldn't.
Qoute,
"The PO did a lot of work bringing this bike back to life. I test rode it and it ran good. Then I got home. It ran for about a minute then acted as if it was out of gas"

Your experience with fellow forum members wholley depends on your interaction with them. We all had to start with zero experience and learn from those " in the know".  There's no shame in it.
We all have made mistakes and learnt from them by taking heed of  advice freely given by more experienced mechanics.
The choice is yours,

I apologize for driving your thread into the weeds.

I offer the following as explanation, not excuse. There have been several attempts at similar conversions discussed here in the past. To the best of my recollection, all of them turned out badly. It is all too easy for some of us old timers to slap our foreheads, roll our eyes and wail, here we go again!  Then we get hung up debating some esoterica we find interesting, rather than directly addressing the questions. This leads to increased frustration for the newbie, which can lead to anger, lashing out and stomping angrily away.

None of this behavior is helpful.

Maybe Murray has addressed the overly rich low speed situation. Maybe this time things will work out better. I don't know.  Some of the members here, like Zed1015, have likely forgotten more about carbs than I will ever know. Take their advice, even if it comes with a small dose of snarkiness.

I will bow out and let y'all get to it.

I have no experience with Murry carbs, so I can't be specific with fuel line routing ideas. However, I feel it should be fairly straight forward to determine the best path. Common sense will get you there, no kinks in line, don't go up and over shit, keep it going downhill....etc.
The bike looks great ! Good for you getting it on the road again.
