Connecting vacuum gauges to each other?
08 Apr 2025 01:37
Question. Does it make any difference to connect the vacuum gauge attachments with each other on kawasaki Z1 carburettors ? Carb 1 and 2 with a tube and 3 and 4 with a tube?

You CAN'T connect 1 & 2 together. You CAN'T connect 3 & 4 together as when one piston is down the other will be up and they'll reduce the vacuum on the induction cycle for each piston.
You CAN connect 1 & 4 together and 2 & 3 together though.
All it will do is equalise the vacuum between the two connected cylinders which should smooth the idle a little.
That said set the vacuum properly on all four cylinders and there's no need to connect any cylinders.

Warren answered Your query but...was that what you were "really" asking or did your Real question get lost in translation?

The only reason to connecting the "non carb vacuum gauge attachments" with each other together is to verify and set/adjust high quality sync gauges i use.

Bought my BOEHM vaccum gauges in 1996 for 200 DM = 100 €
In 2023 the BOEHM company has stopped production, last price 249 €
Today you have to pay 200 € for a used and 320 € new BOEHM vaccum gauge set.

This is "version 2" of my own design, Digital Carb Sync. tool.
Sensitivity, range, and "damping" is easily adjusted by the 4 "touch" keys on the front panel.
Digital (software) filtering and damping alleviates the need for any "restrictions" in the tubes.

The sensors are rated 0 to 11.8 inHg (0 to 40 Kpa), and communicate with the microprocessor digitally, so no analogue "noise" needs to be filtered out.
The sensors resolution is 0.002 inHg. (12 bit digital)
The display has a resolution of 128 pixels horizontal, and 64 pixels vertical.
My software "expands" each cylinders vacuum measurement such that between 10% and 100% of each reading is displayed on a horizontal "bar graph" that is 128 pixels wide, centred around the average of the 4 cylinders readings.
The display can be switched from bar graph mode to "numerical" vacuum display of each cylinder.
Every time the unit is turned on (with engine off) the ambient atmospheric pressure is read and saved, so that subsequent readings (with engine running) are compared to ambient.
As a result of the "pulsing" nature of the manifold readings while the engine is idling, it is necessary to "dampen" the bar graph display by averaging a number of successive readings of each cylinder. This "smoothes" the bar graphs.

I haven't considered making it commercially available as a kit or complete assembly.
I sourced the electronic hardware from Aliexpress and shipping to the bottom of Africa is a gamble, at best!
3 out of the 8 sensors that I ordered were faulty, TYPICAL of chinese sellers, with NO no possible redress.
A few months ago I ordered 70 RAM chips (from china) for a 1970's vintage computer that I recreated,
and all of them were FAKE.
(the original chip markings had been sanded off and new numbers were laser etched on them. $90 down the drain)
NO MORAL COMPASS!
I designed the housing and 3D printed it at home.
Also, the black lettering and logo was cut using a 1 watt diode laser module, attached to my 3D printer's x-axis carriage.
