The 1984 Zx550A1 (Gpz550) used Tk27 carbs which do not have the plastic plugs over the pilot jets. If you have the stock carbs, you shouldn't need the plastic plugs and using them will not let your bike idle.

Only the 1982 Kz550H1 and 1983 Kz550H2 (Gpz550) models had the Tk26 carbs with pilot plugs and intermediate circuit. These had idle-speed knobs under the center of the rack.

Are you sure which carbs you have? If the idle-speed knob is on the side using a remote cable, then you have the correct Tk27 carbs, or possibly the second generation Tk26 carbs found on the shaft-drive models and the 1983 Kz550A4 standard model, or possibly if you are in Europe, maybe the Zr550A version of the Tk26 carbs.

Here's a site that will show some of the differences.

It looks like they were replaced with a older set and they need replaced because one of the ears that holds the float needle has been broken also 2 of the small jets have been sheared off from someone trying to remove them I am assuming the this is one reason I got it so cheap my budget is what ever it needs to be to get the correct carbs ty

It may take some searching, but there was a post here that had some details of what it takes to mount Zx600 carbs on a Zx550A. It has been done. I think I recall that the intake boots have to be swapped because they are offset to account for the different carb spacing on the Zx600.

Ty you all for the input but I ended up finding a set of zx600 carbs in good shape for cheap so now have to find the zephyr zr550 parts to make the carbs work and fit ty again
