OK that would make the ID 1109 which makes them a VM28ss set. Since they do not have an accel pump them most likey came from a non-us market 1980 KZ1000e2 (shaft). The choke levers on the shaft bikes do not have a bend in them like non-shaft bikes do. As to the jets - it sounds like you have 110 main and 15 pilot which were the stock setting for the shaft bikes.

ok thanks for the help with identifying them! Im guessing the stock jetting is why it was running like crap with the header. So with the pods where should I be for jet sizing?
Thanks again for the help! I freakin love this forum such quick responses!

Yes with pods you do need to rejet and this is also the case with some exhausts changes as well.

Before you go down this road, make sure you have good compression, timing is correct, valve clearences are correct, no air or vacuum leaks on the carb holders, fuel level is correct and you have close to full battery voltage at the coils. If these things are not correct, then you will solve much by rejetting.

If everything else is as it should be, the carbs are clean and I do mean clean, and the only changes from stock made are the pods and 4 into 1 exhaust, off the top of my head, I think a good starting point would 3 or 4 size larger mains and one size larger pilot. Please keep in mind that this is just a starting point. You will have to do some plug chops to see if this works or not. You may find that you need something larger or smaller than I suggested.

I am sure others will chime in if I am off base.

I'd bet they're later model VM28s. They cosmetically look like VM26s but are 28mm instead. The float bowls are correct for most Z1As and all Z1Bs; however, the three-screw top cap gives it away.
