Help me decide

My only problem here is the price of a set of CR29's. I am wondering if RS34's or even VM33's would work just as well on my 810. Any opinions? I'm probably gonna end up with the CR's, but I wanted to see what people had to say.

Hey T - same dilemma here, so I'm going to start with VM28's. Might be a temporary solution for you as well.

My personal thought (and you judge based on what you know about me) is that the 33's or 34's would be too big for street riding. But I could be wrong.

What does your head flow now?

I asked this question awhile back, I had a set of RS34's I considered running. Asked here and the general consensus was 34's were too big for the street....track well maybe they would be ok drag racing. Sold the RS34's here to a member that was running them on a 900/1000.

I'm looking for a set of 29's as well but the price is REDICULOUS. There is a member here that modified a set of 26's I believe, bored them to just over 29mm IIRC. I may grab a set of 26's and see if he would bore them for me...26's are dime a dozen for me.

And there are the ones from WiredGeorge. Not sure if he requires cores for the sale of his bored out VM26's, but they would end up being a couple hundred cheaper than the CR29's.

Yeah I feel like they're too big too, my head flows like 74CFM now if I remember correctly, bout the same as a stock J motor.

Big thing with wiredgeorge is wait time. He doesn't stock carbs, he does them as you order, so even if you buy a set it'll take weeks or months to get them.

The bonus about ordering from dynoman is that I'll have my carbs in a couple weeks. They're $785 on there with two extra sets of jets, which is steep but I might just bite the bullet. RS34's are a bit cheaper but may be too big. Last year when CR29s were unavailable Larry Cavanaugh said RS34's would be ok, but if its only a $50 difference I might as well use the Keihins.

I could use VM28's I suppose, I just feel like the CR's will be easier to dial in and better in the long run. I do have the money so I guess I know what to do haha.

Yeah I'm getting a big tax refund next week, so I'm gonna shell out for a seat and carbs.

If you can't afford VM29s, VM33s are most likely out of your [and mine :pinch: ] price range too. I'd bet they wouldn't reach their potential on anything but a wildly ported 900/1000 head even...

Wiredgeorge sells VM33's for $539. The main issue with VM29's is their unavailability.

I stand corrected, thanks! I've been watching carbs on ebay lately, it's common to see VM33s go for $700+.

Guess they don't know about wiredgeorges website haha.

The CR29's are going to be the ticket I think. Or I can just stick with the BS34's for now and save $800.

I've never fully understood why larger CV type carbs are used where smaller manual slide type carbs are used.
