Carb kit jets
17 Feb 2012 19:37
I've started swapping out all the little parts that the kits came with and found that the main jets they gave me are 105 and 107.5
I have the stock 102.5 in there now :pinch:
I'm running my old 2 into 1 Jardines and the existing jets worked well IMO
I wondering if the 105's would be OK or should I just stick with the old 102.5's ?
Is any one running those old mufflers if so what jets you using.

Stupid question, I'm just going to order the right jets and have a nice stock pile if I decide to build another bike :woohoo:

Re: Carb kit jets
18 Feb 2012 03:14I ran into the same situation when I rebuilt the 26mm carbs on my '78 KZ1000 LTD.bluej58 wrote: I've started swapping out all the little parts that the kits came with and found that the main jets they gave me are 105 and 107.5

I was advised that the '78's were jetted lean from the factory and the 105s would work fine. They did. I couldn't tell any difference. I subsequently switched back to the 102'5 jets when I was out west at high altitudes. Made no noticeable difference.
If your 102.5's are in good shape, use them. If you switch to the 105, you may lose a tad bit of fuel economy and the motor may like the extra fuel at high speeds. The mains really only come into play at 3/4 to full throttle. At legal cruise speeds the fuel delivery is controlled by the needle and pilot jets. Your pilot jets are probably 15's

Re: Carb kit jets
18 Feb 2012 03:22You can go that way also. The jets are only 4 or 5 bucks each. Just sayin the 105's will be fine in an otherwise stock motor. BTW, mine is all stock 4 into 2 pipes, cams, carbs and air box..bluej58 wrote: Stupid question, I'm just going to order the right jets and have a nice stock pile if I decide to build another bike :woohoo:

Thanks Tom, yes the new and old pilot jets are 15's .
I really have no ambition to go much faster that 80 mph any more, tickets are too expensive.
And I definitely have no desire to go out looking for a race so I think I'll just clean them up and reuse em .
The 105's will be there if I change my mind.
Plus I'm hoping to get 45 mpg like back in the olden days.
No flash ,no loud pipes , just an old f--k on an old bike putting down the road....
For now anyways :woohoo:

Good luck with 45 mpg. Maybe at 35 mph.
You just described me. Old fart on an old bike, not pretty, but pretty dependable. The bike that is.
