I try and stay away from E10, but I have been using TC-W3 Marine Two Stroke Outboard Motor Oil for a year or so now.
Yes, I know our bikes are 4-strokes, but TC-W3 does no harm to the engine and it does clean the crud and deposits out of the carbs and does leave a oily film on the inside of the fuel tank and the carb's parts. I use a 1:500 ratio.
Any major brand TC-W3 will work. Just make sure it is for an Outboard Motor as normal Two-Stroke oil is not the same thing.

After having 3 petcocks fail after E10 was introduced here in FL I started using the Stabil Marine Ethanol Treatment and have had good results in the year that I've been using it. It's around $20 at Walmart and treats 360 gallons I think.

Yes I remember the days , was it Sunoco 280 or 240 not sure but great stuff.
everyone carried leaded.
bountyhunter, how much do you add to a tank, that stuff ain't cheep
I buy 87 octane unleaded and add 2 ounces to 3 gallons of gas. I know it isn't cheap, I got a case a couple of years back for about $80 for twelve bottles of 32 ounces each (looks like the price has gone up since then). That works out to about 20 cents per ounce, or about 40 cents to treat 3 gallons. That is raising the price about 13 cents per gallon but it also bumps the octane two points which raises it up to 89 which is what I need to run right.
They say the "79" engines did not NEED the lead for the valves, but after how much money and work I put into it for the rebuild, I am running it anyway.

Pretty sure it has more to do with the corn farmers and ethanol producers of America, but sure. Why not.

Ok at the risk of derailing this thread, help a noob here. Should I be putting the highest octane gas I can get into my '79 KZ750?

Re: Additives to combat Ethanol
12 Feb 2012 00:40You should always run the LOWEST octane you can and still run right. They say the old bikes can run on 87, but mine never did. YMMV. I run 89 and it seems OK. Anything higher than what you need is a waste of money.Topper wrote: Ok at the risk of derailing this thread, help a noob here. Should I be putting the highest octane gas I can get into my '79 KZ750?

Haha, these threads can get pretty colorful and have good info.
Let's all step back and look at what is in the products that you have suggested to use so far. Don't read anything into this post that isn't here. You guys use what you want to use, I'm not suggesting you use anything, just showing what the MSDS shows.
MMO=
70% Light Aromatic Oil (Pale Oil)
29% Mineral Spirits
1/4% 1, 4 para-Dichlorobenzene
1/2% 1, 2 ortho-Dichlorobenzene
38 parts per million (ppm) Boron
Startron=
Kerosene
Stabil Marine=
Kerosene
An ounce of Kerosene will stabilize fuel and help the problems you guys have mentioned with petcocks, gumming jets and such.
For more discussion on these type of additives/treatments, Bob is the Oil guy has a lot of threads on them.
Hippies and Obammy.... lol.

Thanks for the ingredient breakdown, but i'm sure there is a lot more to Startron (my hands down prefered fuel stabilizer) than simply "kerosene" . I've been using Startron for the past 6 years and not one single fuel system issue (and I have 13 different engines to take care of). I'll keep using my tried and true Startron.

Hey, not knocking on Startron one bit. It is what it is and it does do the job.
I have had great results with kerosene. Plus, I get to clean all my bike chains with the same stuff I use to keep my gas from getting funky with.
