Ribs/Fins on Carb Bodies
29 Jan 2012 12:10
Were the Kz650's the only 4 cylinder Kz to come with ribs on the carb bodies?
A guy is selling these as Z1 carbs and they don't look right to me...

I had a guy tell me that once also, they were 24mm for a 650.
I have never seen those ribs on the bigger bikes 900-1000
I seen those ribs 25 years ago when I was dating

Those carbs are definitely for a 650, most likely VM24s, possibly VM22s.
Never seen ribs on the big bikes either.

Yep, those are 650 carbs, not Z1. Someone is trying to get some more money for his carburetors. The early Z1 carbs are starting to get expensive.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationYeah, I looked that over first before posting. Thanks guys! Saved me some pain. Explains why nobody is bidding on them either.

Yeah, I've been trying to get a super deal on some 28's for a bit now, but no luck. I either need to wait till I have more cash or just buy a set of 26's for now. I was hoping for the 28's so I could put them on the 900 if they ended up being too much on the 650 project. I think I'll wait for now.

To the best of my knowledge the vm24ss and vm22ss did have the ribs on the bodies. The vm26ss and vm28ss did not - nor did the vm28sc used on the early larger Zs.
For a quick way to tell if a carb is a 22 or a 24 I use the air intake side. The 22s have an additional vent like opening at about 10 o'clock. I have attached a pic showing the a set of 22s and 24s. The 24s are on top (they have accel pump) and the 22s are on the bottom. Note the extra vent on the 22s at about 10 o'clock.

I sent the guy a note; it was an honest mixup and he said he will pull the listing. Here's part of his note:
Hey, thanks again for your help. I bought two Z1s recently, one running and one half apart. I also got a bunch of KZ stuff with it. These were the only carbs in the lot (except for the runner), so i thought they had to be the other Z1 carbs. The whole deal kinda stunk.Anyways, thanks.Best-Jayson

Thanks, Ed. I'm getting tired of figuring out how to correct ebay sellers without being a dick, so I stopped sending them messages.
