Tank leak......
30 Nov 2011 06:59 - 30 Nov 2011 07:00
Does the rubber gasket between the tank and the fuel sender require some sort of sealant?
Fitted mine dry and I'm having leak problems....any recommendations on what to use?

Would consider #2 instead because it's supposedly "fuel resistant" whereas the #3 doesn't specify as being fuel resistant.
Actually shouldn't need anything on the o'ring except perhaps a light coating of silicone lube -- not sealant.
Silicone sealant doesn't play nice with gasoline, at least not for a long term relationship.
Just my 2ยข

yamabond #4 works great for this. THat oring is a pain in the ass. i always seal it just so I don't have to fight leaks. Edit- I was refering to the stupid oring on the petcock to the tank, the fuel sender I'm not familier with. A gasket should never normally need sealer of any kind.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Be very careful here as fuel is really flammable.

The Stag Jointing Paste, from your Gas Fitter or Plumbing Stockist will hold up to Petrol. Even here in the US with the Ethanol, it holds up. But if the Gasket is new, and everything is proper, then nothing should be needed.

If the aftermarket gasket is the problem, here's an oem part. Kawasaki fuel gauge gasket 78-05 nos 11009-1037

When I bought my bike 8 years ago the PO had just had the tank repainted and there was a small leak where the rubber - in my case O ring - was pressed against the tank. Of course the paint had dissolved and the gasket was no longer sealing. bit of steel wool and fine emory paper removed the remaining paint and allowed the O ring to seal against the metal.

I have removed the tank 2 or 3 times and tried different methods to stop the leak from the fuel sender unit..
I'm now thinking fuel is coming from the plastic unit in the center from which the wire is attached.
Any thoughts on this???
