Stuck float axis and stripped screws

06 Nov 2011 23:53

I got a carb leak coming from the intake manifold on the far left carb where the choke sets. I am trying to check the float valve/needle and what not but the axis on which the float is suspended is stuck. Any ideas? Also as I'm taking the carbs apart, the screws are stripping on me. Any ideas for that too? Thanks. Sam

Do you mean the float is stuck on the Pivot? The pin/ hinge?
That can't work that way. The float must hinge freely.
As for the screws, the correct screwdriver would help. If nothing else grind the point off of a #2 phillips.

No the pin/hinge is stuck onto the carb itself.

The pin for the Float? Stuck in the two towers that are in the carb body/ Be careful, as some have broken the tower off. First use good penetrating oil, PB Blaster, etc. Maybe some small concentrated heat, like a butane micro torch. Make sure you are using a very small tipped punch and like a 2oz hammer. Then only the lightest tap. It should come out without the Sledge.

Take a look all the way through the following thread regarding the screws:

Checked the whole thing. Good stuff in there. Is WD-40 okay to use instead of PB?

Won't hurt to try, but WD-40 isn't near as good as PB. But it might get it done for you.

Motor Head: I picked up the PB. now that I got it, i know I need to use a high flash point solvent to clean my air filter. Can i use this stuff? or is it too oily?
