Pull the carbs and get 'em professionally cleaned.

The floats are *waaaaaaaaaaaaaay* stuck.

****

Sorry, mis-read the post first time.

Yeah, changing the oil ain't a bad idea either.

Amazing it even runs on 5+ year sitting carbs.

Amazing machines.

You probably contaminated your oil if you flowed that much gas through everything. Before running the bike make sure you change the oil and filter.

I just went out and drained the oil wow smells bad of fuel and way over full I'm guessing that running it like that for the 15 min on and off resulted in the valve cover oil leak i have now  boy ill tell ya i cant do nothing right:blush:
well cents i will have the cover off i should check the valve clearance now that is going to get scary

In my professional opinion, your best bet is to consult a *professional*.

Get with Wired George on this.

He snores specs in his sleep, and gets the most said the clearest with the fewest words. He whips off fix-it how-to's in minutes that most of us couldn't pull off with a third eye, a factory manual and a trained octopus flippin' the pages... ;)

If you hooked the fuel line to the intake vacuum port you likely locked that piston with liquid. It would be a good idea to check for damage. A rough inspection by removing all plugs and seeing if TDC is equal for each pair of pistons is a good start.

OK the valves checked out fine the plugs are Gray and some are black soot I'm thinking that's from the gas issue and not having a air cleaner wile running the bike off and on.
i think i going to do the air cleaner k&N cones where do the vacuum line go after you remove the old uncleaner box????

you need a manual
there are exploded diagrams under the 'parts category for your 79 police at buykawasaki.com useful for seeing what goes where in a pinch

send your carbs to george
i can't imagine anyone doing as much for as little as he does

i'd need twice what he charges and take 6-8 weeks to get them done plus you'd have to pay shipping to and from hawaii
